Actor Stephen Critchlow has passed away at the age of 54. Critchlow's acting talent extended through his roles in theatre, radio, audio dramas, television, and video games.

Colleagues from Big Finish, a production company Critchlow worked with, shared the news of his passing. Critchlow starred in dozens of audio dramas, with roles in Doctor Who, The Archers, and Torchwood. His work aired on BBC Radio, and he held parts in popular BBC film dramas like Kenneth Williams: Fantabulosa! (where he played Kenneth Home) and Hattie (where he played Gerald Thomas).

Critchlow was from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England, and graduated in 1990 from Mountview Drama School in London. His long theatre career quickly grew to include roles in video games, Critchlow's list of credits include Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Dragon Quest Heroes, Killzone 3, and Final Fantasy 14's Heavensward expansion.

In Heavensward, Critchlow was beloved for his performance as Count Edmont de Fortemps, a noble lord who could not say no to those in need and doubled as the expansion's narrator. His role played a touching, special part of Heavensward and Critchlow will be remembered by fans for his powerful delivery in some of Final Fantasy 14's most memorable scenes.

Critchlow's portrayal of Count Edmont de Fortemps resonates with the Final Fantasy 14 community as one of the most unforgettable, and fans have rallied around a fundraiser he set up last year to raise money for NHS Charities to thank him for his work. The fundraiser was established shortly after Critchlow needed medical care for a stroke and reflected on how hard NHS employees worked to take care of him.
