The Game Awards are just around the corner, with much excitement being generated as millions wait to see who will be crowned winners. The big industry bash is scheduled for Thursday, December 9, and will be coming live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Those up for the big one - Game of the Year - are six contenders: Deathloop, It Takes Two, Metroid Dread, Psychonauts 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and last but not least, Resident Evil Village. But there are thirty categories in total, including awards for Best Score and Music. This year might not have been the best year for new games, but we have had the Netflix and League of Legends tie-up, Arcane, debut on screens, helping to bring in new audiences to the world of League and Runeterra.

To this end, The Game Awards have announced the first musical star who will be performing at the December 9 event. This major musical star is...Sting!

The Game Awards' Geoff Keighley announced that the former Police frontman will be performing next week at the show. Sting will take the stage and perform 'What Could Have Been' from Arcane.

Last year, The Game Awards was broadcast virtually, with Keighley presenting via a soundstage from LA. The musical performances took place in London and Tokyo, and they were broadcast virtually. Last year's performers featured Eddie Vedder performing 'Future Days' from The Last of Us Part 2, and Lyn Inaizumi with 'Last Surprise' from Persona 5 Strikers. In addition, the London Philharmonic Orchestra gave a rousing performance of a Game of the Year medley, which featured music from Hades, Last of Us Part 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, among others.

This year's event will have a live audience and they can expect 17-time Grammy winner Sting to serenade them with a song from the Netflix animated series Arcane. Further announcements for musical performances are expected in the coming days.
