As time goes on, more and more games from the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation receive remasters. It is especially helpful for narrative-driven games to have this treatment. When older tech is upgraded it lets newer generations of gamers more comfortably enjoy incredible stories.

While Nier Replicant and Alan Wake are two examples of incredibly well-done remasters, there are still some missing heavy-hitters we want to see come to modern consoles. Most of these are linear adventures, but a few are open-world games that received praise for great writing and characters.

10 Max Payne 3

Fans waited nine years for a continuation of Max Payne's story. Rockstar Games took the franchise from Remedy's hands and crafted an incredibly tight third-person shooter.

It is also one of the best-looking games of the generation, which leads to a less than stellar performance on consoles. Being able to play Max Payne 3 at 60 frames per second would be reason enough to remaster it. Even better would be a sequel to the game showing us where Max goes next.

9 Heavenly Sword

Ninja Theory's first game on the PS3 was short, but exciting - and technically impressive. Like a lot of early PS3 games, Heavenly Sword's frame rate left a lot to be desired. Of all the early PS3 games that never became a franchise, this one most deserves a sequel.

The developer is now a part of the Microsoft family, so any continuation is unlikely. Being able to play the first game on PS5 would be fun, especially since PS3 games are only playable on the PS3.

8 Final Fantasy 13

Final Fantasy 13 is not the most celebrated game in the franchise, but there is still a lot to love about it. The visuals are still impressive to behold, and it is even more surprising to learn this game ran on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Like other recent Final Fantasy remasters, some quality-of-life improvements could be added to make the experience smoother - but we may have to just keep wishing for this one.

7 Bionic Commando

This is perhaps the least-beloved game on the list, but Bionic Commando from 2009 still has its fans. The gameplay was solid and it had a surprisingly intriguing story. The game ends with a cliffhanger, which sadly never got resolved.

Along with this game, a remaster should come bundled with Bionic Commando Re-Armed, which received more universal praise. Even with what some consider a lackluster plot twist regarding the protagonist's arm, Bionic Commando deserves to be remembered.

6 The Witcher 2: Assassin Of Kings

The Witcher 2 Geralt Battling Dragon

Most people reading this are probably intimately acquainted with The Witcher 3. The Witcher 2 came out on Xbox 360 and PC when the series was still niche, meaning many probably skipped out on it.

Bringing it back and porting it to modern consoles - and for the first time, a Sony platform - would let a lot of fans experience it for the first time. Bringing the original game along would also be a good idea, even though many consider it to be outdated in many ways.

5 The Orange Box

This is not one game, but five. Half-Life 2, its sequel episodes, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 are all considered classics and deserve to be played at the highest possible quality.

Team Fortress 2 still has a player base and is constantly seeing updates, but fans would love to see an old-school version of it readily available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. If fans who don't own VR cannot play Half-Life: Alyx, at least let them play the classics without any issue.

4 Resistance: Fall Of Man

Insomniac Games is far too busy with Ratchet & Clank, Spider-Man, and now Wolverine to care about continuing the Resistance franchise. If they don't want to do it, then another developer should.

Until that day, at least let us play the older games on PS5. Even though multiplayer was a big selling point, the campaigns of the first and third games are particularly great. The first game was an excellent launch title.

3 Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption John Marston and Vincente De Santa

Red Dead Redemption 2 is also considered a masterpiece, but many still prefer the first title in this open-world franchise. Rockstar Games does not often remaster their titles, but fans would pay a lot of money to play an updated version of Red Dead Redemption.

John Marston's story is still impactful, and it would also be great for those who may have played the prequel but never had a chance to go through the first one - the story would be a whole lot more meaningful now, more than ever.

2 Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots

Metal Gear Solid 4 was a polarizing conclusion to Solid Snake's story. One thing is for sure, though; it was absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, MGS4 is still stuck on the PS3.

It is unknown what it would take to get this game to run on modern platforms, but it would absolutely be worth it. Some bonus missions should be added in order to let players more heavily experience the game's incredible gameplay.

1 Grand Theft Auto 4

Grand Theft Auto 4 brought the legendary franchise into the HD generation. The story was way more grounded than the PS2-era games, with Niko Bellic quickly becoming one of gaming's most memorable protagonists.

Even though the controls aren't as great as in its sequel, Liberty City's unique vibe deserves to shine brightly on modern consoles. The west coast is fine and all, but the New York-inspired metropolis feels truly special.
