Soulslikes can be a hit or miss for many people, but Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is so off the wall that it has everyone's interest. And it should. The fast-paced, ruthless action paired with ridiculous dialogue and characters makes the title an absolute blast to experience, no matter your thoughts on the genre.

Whether you tune in for the excellent combat or the bizarre tale of Jack Garland, you will likely see it through to the end because the absurdity of it all will propel you through the finish line. There's nothing quite like Stranger of Paradise, but there are definitely things every player will do at least once in their journey to slay Chaos.

7 Optimize Equipment

Optimize Equipment in Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin

Like many Action RPGs, Stranger of Paradise has an inventory system that houses equipment for you and your party. However, unlike most Action RPGs, this game also has a thousand weapons and pieces of gear that spew out of your enemies like confetti and into your inventory, making it almost impossible to go through and manage it.

Luckily, you can let the game call the shots and auto-equip the best gear available for you and your companions. We suspect many people will use this option as trying to sift through the seemingly never-ending list of items can be exhausting. However, you will still have to go through it from time to time to dismantle old gear for resources at the Smithy, but that's a whole other topic.

6 Ask Yourself Many, Many Questions

The way the story unfolds in Stranger of Paradise is baffling but in the best way possible. There will be several points throughout your journey where you might exclaim, "What?!" while some absurd cutscene plays out on the screen. And, we're here to tell you that you certainly aren't alone but to embrace the pure insanity of it all.

Whether you get a random flashback scene, Jack tells someone to "STFU," or a pirate speaks to you in a completely wild accent, you will walk away from almost every interaction with a handful of questions, with almost none of them getting answered. And, believe it or not, we wouldn't want it any other way.

5 Jam Out To The Music

Jack curb stomping an enemy in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

We think everyone can agree that Final Fantasy has phenomenal music in every single one of its installments, and Stranger of Paradise is no exception. The soundtrack of Stranger of Paradise is incredible and gets you pumped up to curb stomp an enemy as Jack while simultaneously listening to him yell obscenities at them.

Look, even if the game doesn't happen to be your cup of tea, there's no denying that Shadows Rising, the nu-metal track Jack blares from his phone after shouting "Bullshit!" at Neon, goes hard. The same can be said about the vast majority of the songs present in the game, which is expected in a Final Fantasy title.

4 Cower From Every Tonberry

Tonberries are pure evil in every Final Fantasy they appear in, and that tradition remains true in Stranger of Paradise. You can find them strategically placed around most maps or even receive side-quests tasking you to take down a handful of them, which will be more arduous than besting most bosses present in the game.

The fact of the matter is that Tonberries are still near terrifying -yet adorable- creatures that can one-hit you before you even know what happened. They can put you to sleep, paralyze you, and even teleport through a death rift and do it with ease. They're monsters that need to be stopped, but we won't blame anyone that simply avoids them altogether. They're horrifying.

3 Laugh Hysterically At The Dialogue

Throughout the marketing and the handful of betas Stranger of Paradise had over the past few years, everyone wondered if the final product would be this insane from beginning to end. The answer is a resounding "YES!" and we couldn't be happier about it. This game has some of the most jarring, out of left field lines that leave us speechless, and it's glorious.

While almost every character in the game will deliver genuine gems of dialogue, Jack carries the torch with his obsession to track down and murder Chaos and his cold, ruthless, vulgar remarks to bosses. Whether it's Jack cutting a boss off with an aggressive "I don't give a **** who you are!" or stumbling upon a saving station and excitedly exclaiming, "Are those cubes?!" This game offers many moments where you just crack up at the bizarre stuff these characters toss out.

2 Defend Jack And Crew With Your Life

In the game's early goings, you may not have any strong feelings for Jack or the rest of your party but will quickly fall in love with all of them. They're all weirdos who randomly meet in front of a castle, vibrating eggs in hand, wanting to slay Chaos. And, from that moment forward, they're friends and work together.

However, just as quickly as these characters met and bonded, the same will happen to you, and you will want to risk it all to see every single one of them safe. Final Fantasy titles always have characters you root for, but that's dang-near the entire cast of Stranger of Paradise. We want all of these characters to prevail and will destroy anyone who dares hurt them!

1 Realize This Game Is Awesome

Most people will start Stranger of Paradise up, criticize the graphics, plotline, dialogue, but stick with it "for the combat." However, something will happen to you the more you keep playing... You will realize everything about the game is awesome. It won't happen at first, but it's like a hunger—a thirst. You don't quite know why, but you are suddenly loving the characters, want to see Chaos dead just as much as Jack, and need to see the game to the very end.

Whether you jumped in for the memes, to hate on it, or because you love the franchise, Stranger of Paradise will get its hooks into you by any means necessary and will never let you go. Sure, 90 percent of this game is pure -ahem- Chaos, but that's what makes it so awesome and worth seeing unfold right in front of your eyes.
