Whether you tune in for the unique take on the series or the game's combat, there's no denying that Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin has some of the weirdest, most absurd characters in the long-running franchise's history. However, even with their off-the-wall personalities, they still manage to capture our hearts and make us cheer them on from the sidelines.

Characters are an essential part of Final Fantasy and help drive the narrative to astronomical heights. However, in Stranger of Paradise's case, these characters are so insane that it helps make every aspect of the game better. And, at its core, the game is already pretty solid to play, but there's something about these characters that makes everything shine a bit brighter.

8 Captain Bikke

Captain Bikke

While he's a one-off character, Bikke may leave quite an impression on you with his bizarre accent, memorable encounter, and eventually giving you a helping hand to help you track down Chaos by sailing you to another island early in the game.

Bikke won't blow anyone away with his dialogue or a gut-wrenching backstory. Still, him being a proper boss battle in Stranger of Paradise is a sight to behold as he basically only summoned in other enemies to do his bidding in the original Final Fantasy. It's great to see Captain Bikke fully realized in this game in a strange way, making him one of our favorite characters.

7 Ash

Ash in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Ash is the foundation of the Warriors of Light in Stranger of Paradise and joins Jack on his quest to find and slay Chaos at the start of the game. When everyone is popping off with absurd lines of dialogue, it's nice to have someone like Ash who stays calm and confident in his choices.

Though this isn't to say Ash doesn't fly off the handle at times, but he finds a perfect balance and is generally confident and collected in his quest to defeat Chaos. He's also one of the best teammates you can utilize in the game and is a loyal companion to you and the rest of the Warriors of Light.

6 Princess Sarah

Princess Sarah in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Often found playing the lute in Cornelia's central square is Princess Sarah, a confidant of Garland and one of the game's significant NPCs. She's a caring and kind person who puts her faith in Jack and company to put an end to Chaos.

Due to Princess Sarah being an integral part of the story, we feel giving too much about her away would lean heavily into spoiler territory, which we will try to avoid. Still, Sarah is one of the game's more unique characters that will undoubtedly grow on everyone experiencing it.

5 Jed

Jed in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Jed is the perfect contrast to Jack Garland and is a core part of the game and one of the Warriors of Light seeking to take down Chaos at all cost. Jed is a quirky, happy-go-lucky individual that is constantly cracking wise and living life to the fullest. There is never a dull moment with Jed around, which is a much-needed trait in a world this dire.

In many ways, Jed is the comic relief we deserve in Stranger of Paradise and delivers the goods in and out of combat. While every character brings their own wacky qualities to the table, Jed feels the most controlled and intentional, making him easily one of the best members in your rotation.

4 Neon

Neon in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Being the first addition to the team, you would think that Neon might be the voice of reason that would get the story back on track. Instead, she only makes matters more confusing by confidently stating that Chaos isn't even real and is merely a concept, which does not sit well with Jack.

Though, differences aside, Neon joins Jack and the other Warriors of Light to journey with them to find out the truth behind Chaos, swearing to put an end to him if he exists. Furthermore, Neon is a strong combatant and a solid teammate to have in your rotation, solidifying her as one of the game's very best characters.

3 Sophia

Sophia in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Sophia is another character that joins the Warriors of Light a bit later in their journey and is another moment where you may briefly think, "Perhaps she is the one to bring structure to this insane team." But, once more, that is further from the case as Sophia shares the same burning anger inside her as Jack does and wants to see Chaos killed by any means necessary.

Though not nearly as blunt, violent, or constantly angry as Jack, Sophia clearly only has one goal in mind: slay Chaos. It also helps that Sophia is an excellent teammate and can whoop most enemy's -you know what- in combat. Every Warrior of Light is a gift, and we will cherish them until the very end.

2 Astos

Astos in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Svelte, intelligent, and gorgeous is the completely redesigned Astos, King of the Dark Elves. With hints of history between him and the Warriors of Light, Astos claims to know the location of the crystals the squad is looking for and points them in the right direction early on.

The fascinating thing about Astos in Stranger of Paradise is the absolute glow up in his appearance. In the original Final Fantasy, Astos is rather unpleasing to look at and is a monstrous elf that lacks any sort of eloquence. However, that has changed, and he is quite charming and likable!

1 Jack Garland

Jack Garland in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Perhaps single-minded to a fault, Jack Garland only has one goal in mind: slay Chaos. At first, he comes across as distant, rude, and unapproachable but opens up considerably as the journey continues. He loves his teammates and friends dearly and will do anything to protect them.

As the story's main protagonist, Jack gets most of the spotlight. His actions and dialogue range from being over-the-top angry and violent to heartwarming and surprisingly deep. Jack is quite possibly the best character in the game for many reasons, and we wouldn't want it any other way.
