Stranger Things 3: The Game is coming to Nintendo Switch on July 4, the same day that the show's third season will be released on Netflix.

In theory, video games based on our favorites movies and TV shows should be a home run, right? Sadly, more often than not, that doesn't tend to be the case. For some reason, the two do not tend to be transferable. Don't get us wrong, there are some instances in which it does work out, and some cases where the games end up being cult classics. The number of failed attempts doesn't stop us from fantasizing about future ventures either.

With the hype surrounding the latest trailer for the upcoming season of Stranger Things, we have been reminded that we'd love to be able to venture into Hawkins, Indiana ourselves to tackle Demogorgans and pay a visit to The Upside Down. As it turns out, come July 4, we'll be able to.

Developers BonusXP have created Stranger Things 3: The Game. It was revealed at the Gaming Developers Conference this week that the game will be released on Nintendo Switch on the same day that the third season of the show hits Netflix. For players looking for a visually stunning game, move along. If you simply want to play out the show as all your favorite characters, you'll be as excited about this game as we are.

As you can see from the trailer above, the 2D game is something of a throwback, a lot like the show. It almost looks like a Stranger Things crossover with Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Players will be able to choose from 12 different characters, all of whom appear on the show. Each of those characters has their own special abilities. For some reason, Joyce Byers is able to spin as if she is Crash Bandicoot. Weird, but we like it.

As we mentioned above, this isn't going to be an in-depth game that will require you to spend hours on end playing it. It's a simple title that will coincide with the TV show. There will be no online option, but you will have the ability to play multiplayer locally via split-screen. We are looking forward to it, and news of its release has only furthered our anticipation for the new season of Stranger Things.
