Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have revealed their new studio following the success of the hit show's season 4 finale. Upside Down Pictures and the Duffer brothers have announced several projects they'll be working on for Netflix over the course of the next few years, including a live-action TV show adaptation of the popular manga and anime series Death Note.

According to Deadline, the show will be an entirely new take on the series and will not link to the 2017 live-action movie adaptation in any way. That's all we know at the moment, but considering Upside Down Pictures is a brand-new studio, it'll probably be a while before we see the show materialize in a meaningful way.

Most fans of Death Note won't need to be reminded of the last time Netflix attempted to make Death Note live-action, as the movie from 2017 was widely panned by both critics and fans alike. Review and User scores on Metacritic are pretty dismal at 43 and 3.2 respectively and it's not much better over on Rotten Tomatoes either. Thankfully, it seems like Netflix is pretending the entire thing never happened, and the fact that the creators of Stranger Things are on board is cause for slight optimism.

As for the other projects Upside Down Pictures have in the works, the Duffers will obviously be preparing for the final season of Stranger Things. However, the studio has another live-action spinoff series set in the Stranger Things universe which is apparently based on an original idea.

The studio also has other upcoming projects such as an original series made in collaboration with Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, an adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub‘s novel The Talisman, and a Stranger Things stage play set within the world of the show. There aren't any potential dates for when these projects will drop, but at least it's nice to know that the Duffer brothers will be keeping themselves busy.
