Video games news and views website Strategy Gamer recently announced the site will be closing down and relocating to its new headquarters unit, PCGamesN. The post adds that only the website will be coming to an end, as the ‘Strategy Gamer’ brand will continue in name, along with its established social media channels.

Strategy Gamer’s just over 3-year independence “will be shut down within the next few weeks” the post states, with no exact date as yet published. The announcement post was authored by Joe Robinson, who has been Strategy Gamer’s editor since the site launched in 2017. Robinson said they will be accompanying the Strategy Gamer move to PCGN as editor for their strategy games section, and there’s no mention of whether or not any other staff or freelancers will also be joining in the move.

Robinson also iterates that a “collection of key articles” are being migrated to the new HQ, and that “most URLs and pages” will be redirected to various parts on their new home site. The Strategy Gamer brand, Robinson said, “will live within PCGamesN and I will essentially continue what I’ve been doing over there.”

For the greater part of the announcement, Robinson recalls the birth of Strategy Gamer, and the struggles and successes it had over its lifetime. They tell how their games journalism began in 2008 and was largely built covering the niche of video game strategy. Network N, the parent company of PCGamesN, bought Strategy Gamer in 2018, and it was then Robinson states they were “taught the things I was missing and progress went much faster and better than it did at the start.”

But even as Strategy Gamer helped strategy gaming move out of the niche gaming sector and reach the wider audience it has today, Robinson said the site “was always a bit of a bonkers project and it’s done incredibly well to get to this point.”

“Ultimately, merging the site’s great content - both past and future - into one of the biggest and best PC gaming websites on the planet gives our content a better foundation and a better reach,” Robinson added.

Robinson finished the announcement with words of encouragement to the Strategy Gamer audience, ensuring them the quality Strategy Gamer content and reporting ethos is simply moving to a new home, where it will continue to live, boosting the good fight happening at PCGamesN. They add that more info will be forthcoming as the site nears its closing date, so keep monitoring the Strategy Gamer TwitterDiscord, and Facebook channels for when that info drops.
