Stray has all kinds of hidden side activities to find and complete. These can be anything from quests, to collectables, or in this case, safes. The first hub you get to in Stray, The Slums, is bursting with things to do. In fact, you will likely spend more time in The Slums than anywhere else.

Because of its size, it can be easy to miss certain things. One thing that may confound people is a mysterious safe that appears to be locked by some sort of binary code. The solution to this puzzle is straightforward if you know what you are doing, but if you don’t, well you might just give up. That’s where we come in.

Where To Find The Locked Safe

The safe in question can be found by going left at the central hub area of The Slums. You can tell you are in this central area because you will see the Guardian who greeted you at the entrance. Going left will lead to a robot that wants to learn music, but if you continue past this robot, you will find the safe.

On the safe is a note that is completely written in binary code. You may think that deciphering the code manually is the solution - heck, you might even think that numbers written on the walls around the safe are the answer. Both are incorrect.

Deciphering The Binary Code

To Decipher the code, all you have to do is go back to the central area and read a nearby direction sign. One of these signs is written in binary. Not only that, if you show the code to any robot, they will hint that you need to find a “geek”.

The geek in question is Elliott, and he can be found by following those binary signs. You will know when you have found the right place because his door is also covered in binary. Scratch the door, go upstairs, and show him the code. He will tell you it says “Duffer Bar”.

Finding The Duffer Bar

The Duffer Bar is just around the corner from Elliotts, heck, you have probably walked past it multiple times exploring The Slums. It is very well signposted thanks to all the neon signs outside.

If you can’t remember where it is, then follow these directions from Elliott's front door:

  • Take a left at the door, and follow the alley
  • Follow the alley to the right, and the bar will be right in front of you

Once you are at the bar, jump onto the counter and cat-slap the “Duffer Bar” sign. It will fall over and reveal the code to the safe.

The code is: 1283

Return To The Safe

Once you have the code, write it down on a piece of paper or whatever and make your way back to the safe. Punch in the code, and enjoy your reward - a music sheet. You earned it.
