Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are two of the most iconic fighting franchises in gaming history. So many fans of the genre and competitive players grew up with the early entries in these series, both of which are still going strong today. Yes, they’ve both made some missteps along the way, but what long-running franchise hasn’t?

As such, both franchises have wide casts of fan-favorite characters (along with some who are more obscure, of course), and gamers love to speculate on possible Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat bouts and their possible results. From Ryu vs Sub-Zero to Akuma vs Scorpion, let’s take a look at some of these fantasy battles!

10 Vega Vs Baraka

Here’s an interesting one to kick things off. It’s time for the claws to truly come out! Which of these talon-wielding titans would come out on top? It’s a little tough to say.

On the one hand, they’re both so different. Vega is a narcissistic Spanish warrior with great athleticism, who admires all things he considers beautiful and despises ugliness. As such, it’s unlikely he’d think much of Baraka, who has a face only Frankenstein’s Monster’s mother could love. Having said that, they’re both very bloodthirsty fighters who would definitely go all-in on this one. Ultimately, it comes down to whether Vega’s agility or Baraka’s brute strength would win the day.

9 Blanka Vs Raiden

Now, sure, there’s some discrepancy in power levels here. After all, Mortal Kombat’s Raiden is the God Of Thunder. An Elder God at that, depending on where you are on the timeline. As such, he’s perhaps one of the strongest characters in the franchise, capable of throwing down like the MCU’s Thor when called upon to defend Earthrealm.

Would Blanka have much of a chance here? Perhaps not. What we can say, however, is that his brutal and animalistic fighting style would contrast well with Raiden’s rather more elegant approach, and the match would surely be… electrifying.

8 Sagat Vs Goro

Granted, Sagat’s only got the usual quota of four limbs, but the hulking bruiser of Street Fighter going toe to toe with Mortal Kombat’s infamous Shokan powerhouse would be a heck of a sight to behold.

Goro is among Shao Kahn’s favorite and strongest fighters and was hated earlier in the series for being absolutely zero fun to play against. He was outright broken, in fact, due to the absurd damage he could deal. These days, Goro is a little more reasonable, and in terms of their general builds and respective fighting styles, he and Sagat would mesh well together. Sagat may have the projectile advantage over Goro, but once the gap closes, the story could be a little different.

7 Dhalsim Vs Kitana (Royal Storm)

In almost every fighting game ever, the cast can be neatly divided into certain categories. To name a few, there are the grapplers, the fast and agile but weak hitters, and, of course, the zoners.

If you hadn’t already noticed from the fact that he can extend his arms and legs to about 15ft to and smack you in the head with them from across the hall, Dhalsim takes his personal space seriously. Kitana, especially as her Royal Storm variant, is a great zoner too. These two experts in keep-away tactics would put on a completely different, yet super entertaining, kind of show.

6 C. Viper Vs Sonya Blade

In contrast to some of the icons on this list, C. Viper (Crimson Viper) is a little newer to the Street Fighter universe. She made her playable debut in Street Fighter IV, an undercover agent with all kinds of fancy gadgets up her sleeve. With these tricks, she can unleash electrical or flaming attacks.

Sonya Blade is cut from a similar cloth, another special agent who has undergone vigorous training and wields high-tech weapons. With their comparable skillsets, the two formidable women would probably have quite an even match.

5 Zangief Vs Ferra & Torr

Now, it’s not often that a man of Zangief’s stature would come across anyone remotely as powerful as himself. He’s the grappler against which all other grapplers are measured. The devious duo Ferra & Torr, however, would relish the challenge of throwing down with the mighty warrior.

Ferra & Torr are also quite new, debuting in Mortal Kombat X. Their unconventional approach sees the smaller Ferra ‘riding’ and controlling the hulking Torr, attacking in conjunction with him to throw the opponent off balance or simply deal huge damage with slow, powerful blows. Zangief’s known for his ability to brute force his way through any opposition, but could he hold his own in a fight as brutal as this one?

4 Ryu Vs Sub-Zero

Time for a real clash of the fighting game titans. With Scorpion occupied in a hypothetical battle of his own (later in this list), Sub-Zero is stepping up against Ryu. Yet again, it’s a match that we just wouldn’t want to call.

Both of these legends have appeared in almost every mainline entry and spin-off their respective franchises have seen. They’re both rather ‘vanilla’ choices, both accomplished warriors, and both quite user-friendly characters that players of all skill levels can come to grips with. Sub-Zero seems to have the edge with regards to his cryomancy, but Ryu’s dependability and tenacity (not to mention his patented Hadouken spam) has seen him through many harsh battles.

3 Cammy Vs Mileena

Cammy is a British agent who has mastered the art of close combat. She has precious little range but uses her agility and acrobatic moves to close the gap and unleash a flurry of varied blows. By mixing things up, her assault is made very difficult to defend against. Mileena, too, favors this sort of approach, boasting a range of attacks that play to her agility and let her open the opponent up.

Another interesting match-up, Cammy and Mileena are quite similar warriors in a lot of ways. Mileena, however, is half-Tarkatan (owing to the method of her ‘birth’), perhaps giving her an edge in raw strength and brutality.

2 Juri Vs Skarlet

To the uninitiated, Juri may look like a run-of-the-mill (if sadistic and merciless) fighter. However, the Feng Shui Engine she wields (built by S.I.N. to replace her lost left eye) enhances her natural talents in the way of speed, agility, and power. Her fighting ability is far beyond that of most mortal challengers.

Skarlet, too, is an experienced, agile and relentless fighter with a special trick up her sleeve. Her deft command of blood magic is utilized in countless ways, from projectile attacks to evasive maneuvers and some of the most brilliantly grim Fatalities in the series. Juri is no mere human fighter (not anymore), but could she stand up to Skarlet’s own unconventional abilities? It would be a blast to find out!

1 Akuma Vs Scorpion

To close things out, we have another match that would be a surefire hit. Street Fighter’s Akuma is, essentially, the Voldemort to Ryu’s Dumbledore. A powerful and disciplined warrior who gradually sacrificed his humanity in his pursuit of power.

Scorpion, meanwhile, has been a human warrior, a vengeful spirit, and back again. He boasts strong projectiles, teleportation abilities and iconic attacks (Get over here!), just like Akuma. We’d want to be right in the front row for this match, close enough to smell the Hellfire.
