The latest trailer from Streets of Rage 4 brings four-player co-op and a surprise fifth character.

Streets of Rage 4 is shaping up to be a faithful recreation of a '90s classic, but it's also looking to update itself for modern audiences. Today, people expect beat-'em-up games to be played with at least four friends (we can thank Castle Crashers for that), but we also expect to have some online capabilities too.

Thankfully, the fourth Streets of Rage will have both. Plus one more playable character that nobody saw coming.

His name is Floyd Iraia, and all we know is that he's a big man with big cybernetic arms. He sort of reminds you of Max from Streets of Rage 2 but with way more cyberpunk vibes.

"Although Floyd’s movement and health recovery are slower than most, he boasts the longest reach among the playable roster and tremendous power, ensuring any combo he puts an enemy through will be devastating," writes publisher Dometu on the trailer description. You'll note in the trailer that Floyd is able to unleash what appears to be a Kamehameha-style beam attack from his arms, making him undoubtedly the most powerful ranged attacker on the Streets of Rage team.

There were a few more big reveals in the trailer: two-player online co-op was announced along with four-player offline co-op play, as well as a spring launch date. We don't have a specific date when in spring, but we're narrowing in.

Also, the city of Streets of Rage now has a name. What was once called simply The City is now officially Wood Oak City. What has The Syndicate done to this bustling metropolis this time? Find out in the next trailer. Or maybe this is the last trailer before the game releases on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

Either way, thumbs are going to be tired in the next couple of weeks.
