"What's your favorite Pokemon stat?" No one ever asks that question. Not verbatim, anyway. But in a weird way, it's among the most salient queries that any fan can make. Do you like to outspeed your opponents? Or do you prefer to bulk up and stall them? Perhaps you're a "special sweeper." Or maybe, just maybe, you're all about going in hard with raw muscle.

And that's where this list comes in. We're taking a look at 15 Pokemon with some of the highest Attack stats in the entire series — a statement that grows in meaning the more of these beloved critters Game Freak tosses our way.

Updated on May 15, 2022 by Quinton O'Connor: It's been a few years since last we revisited the subject of Pokemon punching power. There have been a handful of changes, but more importantly, with Pokemon Legends: Arceus in the rearview mirror we can now tilt our full attention to the upcoming Scarlet & Violet.

9 Mega Tyranitar - 164

Tyranitar was all the rage from the moment Game Freak revealed it way back in the forever-ago year 1999. Its status as one of the strongest Johto monsters, bar none, and its nifty Rock/Dark typing ensured its continued popularity.

Mega Tyranitar follows conventional Mega logic, adding more bodily features at the risk of seeming overly busy by design. Some wonder if placing eyes on its chest where mammals might harbor nipples was the wisest move. Still, look at that thing. Do not, we repeat do not, say that to its face.

8 Four-Way Tie: Mega Banette, Rampardos, Mega Gallade, Ice Rider Calyrex - 165

Calyrex Ice Rider Glastrier Shadow Rider Spectrier Pokemon Sword Shield Crown Tundra DLC

Behold, a four-way free-for-all! Spoiler alert: this won't be the only time this happens. (Although in the other two instances, it's a more manageable trio, not a full-blown quartet.)

Mega Banette's a real spooky sort. According to its Pokddex entry in Pokmon Moon, "Mega Evolution increases its vindictiveness, and the cursing power that was held back by its zipper comes spilling out." You've gone and spilled the curse in its zipper, trainers. Whatever happens next is up to fate.

Rampardos and Mega Gallade are more overt attackers. Where Gallade taps into graceful sword-dancing, Rampardos just hits things in the head. Your preference here may rest on the relative strength of your own skull.

Ice Rider Calyrex has the unique honor here of actually being usable in Sword & Shield's online scene. Of course, being an uber, players can't tap into its powers except when the ruling abides.

7 Ultra Necrozma - 167

By learning the Psychic move Prismatic Laser, Ultra Necrozma can deal damage with 167 Special Attack Power. Its Attack power is equally dominant. You can teach Ultra Necrozma a powerful move that relies on either offensive stat, since they're both the same.

Players who have sampled Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon will know the full strength of this nigh-unstoppable fiend; the Pokemon games are seldom truly difficult, but more than a few times, folks have been taken for a ride with Ultra Necrozma. Bring Full Restores.

6 Three-Way Tie: Mega Garchomp, Black Kyurem, Crowned Sword Zacian - 170

Kyurem, Pokemon Movie Anime

What do these three have in common? Besides their 170 Attack stat, that is. The answer's obvious — they're each fully capable of tearing us to shreds. Mega Garchomp will rip us apart with its fangs after slashing us to ribbons with its hook-like arms. Black Kyurem will blast us with Dragon Rage, or maybe just stomp on us, that ought to do the trick. And Sword Form Zacian is a wolf who is trained to use a sword. That sentence speaks for itself.

5 Deoxys (Attack Forme)

While Pokémon can have different genders or Mega Evolutions, Deoxys has forms that relate to its stats. Deoxys' forms include Normal Forme, Attack Forme, Defense Forme, and Speed Forme.

Because of its various forms, its Attack power can vary. In the Attack Forme, predictably, is the strongest. Deoxys has 180 Attack, which can rise to 504 Attack once it reaches level 100. Deoxys can be caught in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire at the Sky Pillar.

4 Three-Way Tie: Primal Groudon, Mega Rayquaza, Attack Forme Deoxys

Gen 3 of "too much water" fame hits hard with a three-pack of Hoenn antiheroes at 180 Base Attack. First, that leap from 170 to 180 is pretty severe, right? Unexpected.

Deoxys' arrival is hardly a surprise. For a long time, children trembled at its scary visage and wondered if it was going to emerge from beneath their beds. It was the ultimate "god-tier" get until Arceus strolled onto the scene the following generation.

If you're a Water-type lover, and you're feeling bummed watching Primal Groudon share the spotlight with Mega Rayquaza here, don't feel left out. Primal Kyogre's got a 180 to its name as well; it just happens to be Special Attack instead. Mega Rayquaza, on the other hand, laughs at them both with 180 in both fields. Ouch.

3 Kartana - 181

181 Attack. No Mega Evolution required. No Dynamax, or even Gigantamax to get bigger and boost the base power of its moves. It just happens to have landed here from outer space, in line with other Ultra Beasts, which makes it inherently terrifying.

Kartana resembles an origami human. That sounds charming. Origami can cause paper cuts. That sounds less charming. Now imagine getting hit by a paper cut with 181 Base Power. That sounds fatal.

2 Mega Heracross -185

Here's the thing about Mega Heracross. It's not going to win any awards in any other stat category. The rest of its sums range from passable to paltry, especially in comparison to many other Megas.

Here's the other thing about Mega Heracross. It doesn't care. It has the second-highest Attack stat in the entire series. If you were to tick it off and then take a plane halfway across the world, Mega Heracross would drill through the earth's crust and come out the other side.

That's not established canon, by the way. That's just us musing. But do you really want to test this hypothesis?

1 Mega Mewtwo X - 190

Time was, every schoolchild feared Mewtwo almost as much as they admired it. Of the original 151 species of Pokemon, nothing compared in pure, dare we use the word, awesomeness. Capturing Mewtwo was the end of Red & Blue, the ultimate proof of one's worthiness.

Mewtwo's faded glory through the years, as it watched creatures like Deoxys and Arceus steal its mantle, must surely have angered the crestfallen lab experiment. Even now, Mega Mewtwo X stands proudly with the highest Base Attack there is. Dragon Ball fans will know there's always a bigger fish for Goku to fry, die trying, or somehow manage to accomplish both.

In the Pokemon universe, Mega Mewtwo X has effectively paused the conversation on physical sweepers for almost a decade. There are no rivals. Goku would not survive. Schoolchildren of a new age have been reminded what it means to reign supreme.
