Alien Robot

Alien Robot from Subnautica

Alien Robots are very unique Subnautica creatures because they aren't original to Planet 4546B; instead, Alien robots were created by the Precursor Race to repair Alien Bases and defend them (which is why they become aggressive when they see the player). You'll find these robots roaming around the Alien Thermal Plant and the Primary Containment Facility.

Thankfully, these Alien Robots have a very small detection area, and they lose interest in you fast. They seem almost passive and only really attack when you're too close, so dealing with them won't be too much trouble.

Biter

Biter from Subnautica

Don't be fooled by this fish's small size; these Subnautica creatures have a piranha-like set of teeth ready to attack you, dealing seven percent damage in the process. And while that doesn't seem like a lot, Biters are rarely alone, so a swarm of them will take a good chunk out of your health. You'll find these feisty fish in the following areas:

  • The Grassy Plateaus
  • The Mountains
  • The Jellyshroom Cave

You have two options when dealing with Biters. The first is to offer them a fish from your inventory, and they'll eat that instead of you. However, you should only do this if there's only one of them.

The other option is to swim in unpredictable directions; they will chase you but eventually leave you alone. But, if you're going to do that, keep in mind that these little guys swim really fast.

Blood Crawler

Blood Crawler Subnautica

These Subnautica creatures resemble a spider but with really long legs. You'll find them in the following areas:

  • The Blood Kelp Caves
  • The Blood Kelp Zone
  • The Lost River
  • The Ghost Forest

While they deal very low damage (only five percent), Blood Crawlers like to move in groups, so you won't be dealing with only one. If you encounter these sea-spiders, swim really high so they lose interest or use the repulsion cannon to blast them away.

Blighter

Blighter from Subnautica

If Biters didn't seem annoying enough, meet the Blighters, the Biter's zombified cousin! The main difference between the two fish is the Blighters are slower, less aggressive, and don't have a pack-forming mentality. You'll find these Subnautica creatures in:

  • The Blood Kelp Caves
  • The Blood Kelp Zone

They deal the same damage as Biters (seven percent) and only really attack when you're too close, so they're easier to deal with in comparison to their cousin.

Boneshark

Boneshark from Subnautica

These large predators are very aggressive and will deal 30 percent damage if they get to you. You'll be able to find Bonesharks in:

  • The Bulb Zone
  • The Crag Field
  • The Crash Zone
  • The Crash Zone Mesas
  • The Mushroom Forest
  • The Underwater Islands
  • The Underwater Islands Caves

You have a few options when dealing with them. Try and swim into a hoard of other fauna to see the Boneshark lose interest. You could also throw flares around; this will make the creature attack the light and not you. Another thing you could do is swim in circular motions to make them lose interest.

You could also get into a submersible; however, the Boneshark will still deal damage to it, just less so than if it were attacking you directly.

Bleeder

Bleeder from Subnautica

Bleeders look like a cross between a tick and a leech; this parasite will use the tentacles it has around its mouth to grab its victim and suck their blood. You'll find these things in the following places:

  • The Aurora
  • The Deep Sparse Reef
  • The Lost River
  • The Deep Sparse Reef

While the Bleeder bites don't cause that much damage, it adds up over time, and it also drains the player's food level.

To get a Bleeder off of you, you'll need to punch it until it lets go. However, and this is very important: Bleeders are attracted to blood, so you'll want to swim away and then punch the creature. If not, the blood from the Bleeder you're attacking will attract the rest. On that note, you can also use propulsion or repulsion cannons to get these parasites out of the way.

Crabsnake

Crabsnake from Subnautica

These large Subnautica creatures will not only deal 35 percent damage, but they'll also immobilize you at the same time. The Crabsnake can be found in the Jellyshroom Cave because they live inside the Jellyshrooms (which they use to hide and sneak attack the player or other creatures).

To avoid Crabsnakes, swim high and above the Jellyshrooms or swim very close to the ground under them, so the creature can't see you.

Another option is to pay attention to where they're hiding and avoid the Jellyshrooms you know have Crabsnake in them. If everything fails, use a vehicle, as this creature will attack it, but it'll deal very little damage.

Cave Crawler

Cave Crawler from Subnautica

Cave Crawlers are super similar to the Blood Crawlers; the main difference is that Cave Crawlers have shorter legs. You'll find these Subnautica creatures in these places:

  • The Aurora
  • The Underwater Islands
  • The Mountain Island
  • The Dunes

You can deal with them the same way you'll deal with Blood Crawlers: swimming away or using the propulsion or repulsion cannon.

Crabsquid

Crabsquid from subnautica

Out of all the dangerous Subnautica creatures, Leviathan-class are the most feared in the game. However, Crabsquids don't stay behind. You'll spot these large monstrosities in:

  • The Northern Blood Kelp Zone
  • The Deep Grand Reef
  • The Lost River

These things deal 40 percent damage. They also have an affinity for light, so they'll attack electric objects and shut them down, for a short time, using an EMP blast.

To deal with Crabsquids, you could turn off any lights and move very carefully, so they don't see you. If you're feeling brave, you can also try to distract them using flares.

Lava Lizard

Lava Lizard from Subnautica

These carnivorous Subnautica creatures can mostly be found in:

  • The Inactive Lava Zone
  • The Lava Lakes
  • The Lava Castle's interior

When it comes to attacking, this scaly life-form can either bite the player or spit lava at them. Either attack causes 30 percent damage.

Like the majority of all creatures in Subnautica, it is better to avoid the Lava Lizards than to deal with them. However, if you have any Lava Larvae on your vehicle, the Lava Lizard will just eat them and not attack you.

Ghost Leviathan

Ghost Leviathan from subnautica

Just by looking at its name, you know these Subnautica creatures are going to be huge and powerful; in fact, this leviathan-class life form is the third-largest creature in the whole game. An adult Ghost Leviathan deals 84 percent damage when attacking the player, while a Juvenile Ghost Leviathan deals 55 percent damage. They can also do some damage to your vehicles, especially the Cyclops.

You can find up to six Ghost Leviathans while exploring around; three will be in the Lost River, two in the Grand Reef, and one in the Northern Blood Kelp Zone. Additionally, three of them will progressively spawn if you enter the Crater Edge and stay there for a minute.

When dealing with Ghost Leviathans, it's best to try and hide in small areas. However, if you're trying to face the Ghost Leviathans that appear in Crater Edge, there's nothing you can do except run for your life and return to the playable area.

Mesmer

Mesmer from subnautica

At first glance, these creatures look harmless; after all, how can something so glowy and pretty do any damage? Well, that's exactly what Mesmers wants you to think.

Out of all of the Subnautica creatures, these are the ones that are capable of manipulating your mind and tricking you into swimming closer to them, and when you give in, they will attack you, dealing 35 percent damage.

It can be really difficult to deal with this fish because its hypnosis is so strong it will automatically move the player toward the creature. However, you can break free by swimming far enough or looking away.

The other option is to use the propulsion or repulsion cannons to push the Mesmer away.

Reaper Leviathan

Reaper Leviathan from Subnautica

This big guy is likely one of the first Leviathan-class Subnautica creatures you'll encounter in the game; after all, there are twenty-five Reaper Leviathans in the game, so spotting one will happen sooner than later.

Don't let them get to you because they will deal a nasty 80 percent damage and even instantly kill you if you're already a bit damaged. Reaper Leviathans like to hang out in large open areas, like the Crash Zone, the Dunes, or the Mountains.

If you see one of these creatures, run in the opposite direction as fast as you can, but be aware that they can chase you for long distances, if necessary. Try to hide in caves or swim into a ravine on the ocean floor. In the most desperate of cases, you can sacrifice your Seamoth and let the creature play with it while you escape away.

River Prowler

River Prowler from subnautica

These are another one of Subnautica's dangerous creatures that deal 30 percent damage. They're exclusive to the Lost River biome. They'll attack you if you come into range, so the best thing to do when dealing with River Prowlers is either flee or avoid them altogether.

Sand Shark

Sand Shark from subnautica

You'll mostly have to deal with these Subnautica creatures while exploring:

  • The Grassy Plateaus
  • The Crash Zone
  • The Dunes

This sneaky shark likes to burrow into the sand and wait until somethings come alone to ambush and attack them (dealing 30 percent damage with each bite).

One way to deal with them is to really pay attention to your surrounding, as Sand Sharks make a series of low growls before attacking. So if you hear that, go back to the surface or your vehicle.

If you can't avoid it, then start swimming and change directions quickly, as the shark swims in a straight line. If you manage to reach the surface or avoid damage for long enough, the Sand Shark will give up and go back to its original location. Alternatively, you can repel them using the repulsion cannon or a Torpedo System.

Ampeel

Ampeel from subnautica

You'll find these creatures in the Bulb Zone and in the Blood Kelp Zone. They deal 45 percent damage if they bite you and 15 percent if they shock you. So if you encounter them, you better pray that there's only one of them, as Ampeels can travel alone or in packs of two to five members.

Because this creature generates electricity, it will mess up the Seamoth and can deal damage to the Cyclops.

The best thing to do when dealing with Ampeels is to avoid them or try to flee, which is really what you should do with all creatures in Subnautica. If you have to engage, then using the Stasis Rifle, repulsion cannon, or a Torpedo System will help.

Sea Dragon Leviathan

Sea Dragon Leviathan from subnautica

This one is one of the big guys, being the largest aggressive creature in Subnautica. The good news is that there are only three of them on the map; two of them are in the Inactive Lava Zone and the other one is in the Lava Lakes. The bad news? Well, if you encounter them, you're going to have a bad time.

Sea Dragon Leviathan Attacks:

  • Bite: Instants kills the player and deals ten percent to 20 percent of damage to the Prawn Suit.
  • Swat: Deals 40 percent of damage to the player and 13 percent to the Prawn Suit.
  • Fire Breath: Deals 20 percent damage.
  • Meteor: deals 80 percent damage.

As you can probably guess by now, the best thing to do is to try and avoid the Sea Dragon Leviathan at all costs.

Stalker

Stalker from Subnautica

These guys will likely be one of the first aggressive creatures you'll meet. They deal 30 percent damage and hang around the Kelp Forest and the Crash Zone. Very rarely, you'll see them swimming in the Safe Shallows.

There are two ways you can deal with Stalker. These Subnautica creatures are weirdly very fond of metal, so if you have any metal salvage, drop it, and the Stalker will focus on the metal instead of you.

The other thing you can do is offer them a fish. Just put the fish on your hand, and the Stalker will eat it. This will tame the creature and, if you're lucky enough, it will bring you a piece of metal in return. However, keep in mind that this effect is temporary and exclusive to the Stalker you fed; the others will remain aggressive toward you.

Warper

Warper from subnautica

Out of all creatures in Subnautica, Warpers have to be the most intimidating ones. Just like Alien Robots, they were was created by the Precursor Race.

These biomechanical creatures deal 23 percent damage during stage two, 42 percent damage during stage three, and 69 percent damage during stage four. However, they will only be hostile toward your when your infection level is high enough.

Warper warping away

These creatures are very dangerous due to a couple of reasons. First, they can spawn aggressive creatures to attack the player. Not only that but they can shoot projectiles that'll deal five damage per hit.

Also, thanks to their teletransportation ability, Warpers can teleport all around the map in just seconds.

Finally, they have the ability to teleport you out of vehicles, like the Seamoth.

You'll likely encounter Warpers in some of the deeper biomes and around Alien Bases.

When dealing with them, you could try and use a Stasis Rifle, but this weapon will only stun them for a brief period of time. Still, the best course of action is to avoid them and flee, if you can.
