The latest update for Subnautica: Below Zero adds the game’s first overland vehicle along with yet more deadly creatures you’ll need to avoid.
The polar region of planet 4546B continues to expand with the latest update for Subnautica: Below Zero. A new vehicle has arrived in the Snowfox update, and it might surprise you to learn that it’s Subnautica’s first land-based vehicle, ever.
It’s called (perhaps unsurprisingly) the Snowfox hoverbike. This nifty little antigrav machine will let you traverse the polar ice caps at speeds never before seen in Subnautica. A speed booster comes standard, as does a single headlight to help you find your way at night.
Although, you might not want to venture out at night anymore with the addition of the Snow Stalker. This predatory species is super cute as babies, but momma is never far and she is ready to ruin your day if you get too close. Imagine a polar bear with the snout of an alligator, but with as many teeth as both species combined.

If that wasn’t enough, the Snowfox update also adds Chelicerate. A Leviathan-class creature, the Chelicerate is actually an invertebrate, but don’t let its lack of skeleton fool you: this thing has mandibles large enough to swallow you whole. It’s huge, terrifying, and aggressive, so stay as far away from it as possible unless you want to end up as a frozen dinner.
And what new update would be complete without new modules! The Sleeper module can be added to the Seatruck and will provide intrepid explorers with a bed, jukebox (without music--that’ll be added in a later update), and a picture frame. The Docking module allows you to dock the PRAWN suit to the side of the Seatruck and carry it along with you.
Perimeter defense systems will help keep you safe to a point, but don’t expect it to discourage a Chelicerate. It’s more to keep the new Brinewings at bay. Which, by the way, can launch ice spikes with deadly accuracy and temporarily freeze their prey.
