Subnautica: Below Zero is the sequel game to the indie survival hit, Subnautica. Players take on the role of Robin Ayou, returning once more to planet 4546b to discover the circumstances around her sister's death.
As is usual with the survival genre of gaming, Robin will have to gather numerous resources and craft many valuable tools to navigate the icy waters of Sector Zero. Among these many resources is the simple Table Coral. As with basically every other item in the game, this coral only appears in certain biomes. So, here is a small list to clarify which very biomes those are.
Updated on November 1, 2021 by Olivia Titus: Six months after its full release, Subnautica Below Zero is still a fantastically frozen survival game, full of fishy terrors and delights. And whether used for general survival or the plot, Table Coral still holds a valuable part in this world, namely through its key crafting components. So be sure to stock up, because this little resource has a surprising amount of use behind it.
Crafting With Table Coral
Table Coral is a harvestable material via Survial Knives or Thermoblades, and is used in crafting a variety of tools in the game. Or rather, it's used in crafting, specifically, one item: Computer Chips. Built along with Copper Wire and Gold, Computer Chips are an extremely important resource in crafting a variety of tools, vehicles, and upgrades. These buildable materials, then, can be sorted into four categories:

Furthermore, Table Coral is also used in crafting the Parallel Processing Unit (+Gold and Silver), which is then used to make Test Override Module (+Titanium, Lead, and Copper Wire). And this item plays an important role in the game's plot. Of course, coral is also a living thing, making it a perfect fuel source for your base's Bioreactor, outputting 70 energy. So, whether you want to simply survive or live in luxury on planet 4546b, or it's best to stock up on this material.
Key Crafting with Coral
Outside of basic, survival-based crafting, Table Coral now holds a key part in the game's plotline. Two unique items known as the Parallel Processing Unit and Test Override Module were added to the game. Table Coral is used to make the Unit, while said Unit is a crafting component of the Module. And if players want to unravel the many mysteries and secrets of the plot, here's a small guide to these two items.

Twisty Bridges
The first place that Table Coral can be found in abundance is the Twisty Bridges. This biome is south of the Sparse Arctic, the general starting biome and location of Robin's drop pod. As such, it will be a perfect place to gather many samples of this resource, especially early in the game.
The coral can be found growing along the many walls and ridges of this fauna-filled crevice. Here's a small heads up on what to expect from this biome.
Biomes |
Twisty Bridges |
Caves; along Trench walls |

Dangers |
Brute Sharks (30 Damage) |
Crash Fish (varies on distance, max 1/3 health) |

Quartz, Salt Deposit, Ribbon Plants; Crystalline Sulfur |
Recommended Tools |
Rebreather for depths over 100m |
Seaglide to avoid hostile fauna |
For being extremely close to the beginning biome, the Twisty Bridges is a deceptively dangerous place, far more than its first Subnautica counterparts. For anyone seeking to gather their needed Table Coral, they best be prepared and be wary of said dangers
Lily Pad Islands
Table Coral is only naturally located in two biomes of the game. The Twisty Bridges is one, and the Lily Pad Islands is the other. This biome is among the furthest south of the map, laying just beside the World Edge, East Arctic, and Tree Spires. While fortunately lacking any hostile Leviathans in its waters, it still hosts a new slew of obstacles that players will need to navigate around.
Biomes |
Lilypad Islands (Rock Formations) |

Brute Sharks (30 damage), Squid Sharks (40 damage) |
Lily Paddlers (can dissorient to drown players) |

Recommended Tools |
Seatruck with first depth upgrade or Prawn Suit |
Seaglide to avoid hostiles and Rebreather for depths |
Table Coral can be found in greater abundance inside the caves of this biome, so players will also need to navigate narrow crevices alongside other dangers this region offers. It may be better to bring a Prawn Suit over a Seatruck to harvest these crevices. Hopefully, players will have gathered enough coral in the Twisty Bridges, but if they need to find any here, they best come prepared.
Sea Monkies
There is a third method to obtaining Table Coral, alongside a slew of other resources: Sea Monkies! Once players encounter Architect Alan, these little creatures will gift Robin with any random resource. Here's a small guide on how to find these playful critters:
