One of the resources you will come across in Subnautica is called a Large Resource Deposit, but the catch is that you cannot harvest them until later in the game. However, you are also not told what you need to begin gathering from these, which can be quite frustrating, especially to beginners. You can search for hours and still not find what you need, but there is no need to quit.
The Large Resource deposits are relatively easy to harvest resources from once you know what you are looking for. It can take some time to truly explore all the biomes of Subnautica, but it is well worth the wait.

Types Of Large Resource Deposits
First, you need to understand what a Large Resource Deposit is, and it is a big mound of a specific type of raw material. When it is harvested, it will break into several pieces, and it is a great way to gather large amounts of a single resource.

Craft A Prawn Suit
Before you can begin to even think about harvesting a Large Resource Deposit, you need to craft a Prawn Suit. You have to scan all of the pieces of the Prawn Suit in order to unlock it, and unfortunately, it is located within the Aurora.
This means you will have to evade a Reaper Leviathan. Some players choose to distract it with a Seamoth, which the Leviathan can destroy while they swim safely past. Once inside, there will be four unusable Prawn Suits, which each account for 25 percent of the blueprint.
The recipe is quite involved, but you need to gather these items in order to craft it:
- 2x Plasteel Ingots
- 2x Aerogel
- 2x Diamond
- 2x Lead
- 1x Enameled Glass
You will also need a Mobile Vehicle Bay to craft the suit.
It will take two power cells to operate, so make sure you have extras on hand or a Moonpool at your seabase to recharge it. This suit will allow you to explore deeper areas than the Seamoth, but it lacks effortless mobility, so it is best to take another vehicle to your desired location.
Craft A Prawn Suit Drill Arm
Once you have your Prawn Suit crafted, you are halfway to collecting your own Large Resource Deposits. The Prawn Suit Drill Arm is an available upgrade for this vehicle that is used to mine for resources.
The recipe does require a Vehicle Upgrade Console, so make sure you have this already made before attempting to craft this.
The items you need to collect for the recipe include:
- 5x Titanium
- 4x Diamond
- 1x Lithium
Use Your New Vehicle And Its Upgrade
Now that your suit is ready to go, you can head out into the ocean and find some Large Resource Deposits. Once you approach this mound of raw materials, then all you have to do is use the arm to harvest the materials.
You can set up the Gravosphere to catch any falling debris from the Large Resource Deposit you are harvesting.
You can also use the Scanner Room to identify nearby deposits, as it cannot see what is inside of different outcrops.
