Where To Catch Salmon And Trout In Red Dead Online

You can find Salmon and Trout in multiple places on the Red Dead Online map, but not in the sea/ocean. Instead, it would be best if you frequented the Kamassa River and the Dakota River.

Kamassa River

The Kamassa River can be found to the West of the Van Horn Trading Post. You could try your luck wandering up and down the banks. However, the Kamassa is quite a long winding river, so narrowing your hunt to a few fishing hot spots can save you a lot of time.

  1. Starting with the southern-most fishing hole, there is a more concentrated pool of Salmon along the bank just North of Caliga Hall and West of Saint Denis.
  2. Heading a short distance upriver, North of the Bluewater Marsh, There is a sweet spot for Trout along the bottom banks of the large U-shaped bend in the riverbed.
  3. On the upper banks of the same bend, there is another fishing hole, ripe with Salmon.
  4. The final bountiful fishing hole is at the tippy top of the map, in the northeast corner. Within the Roanoke Ridge region, you will find the Northern-most stretch of the Kamassa river- right up against the border of the map- is usually teeming with Trout.

We've included a few maps for reference with the prime fishing holes highlighted and color-coded; orange for Salmon pools and white for Trout.

Dakota River

It’s the same story for the Dakota River. North of the Flatneck Station, you shall find a large curve in the river, and following it will allow you to find several excellent fishing spots. You might need to keep following the river to find the kinds of fish you need, but stay vigilant, and you’ll spot some salmon and trout in no time. Here are a few pointers of where along the banks you should keep a keen eye on.

  1. Starting at the southern-most fishing pool again, there is a school of Trout that typically resides along the bank just West of the Burned Town, Northwest of Flatneck Station.
  2. Heading North, A school of Salmon inhabits the other side of the river bend.
  3. Continuing upriver, there is another prime Salmon fishing hole where the Little Creek River meets the Dakota.
  4. It's possible to catch Salmon, and several other species of fish, all along the bank as you continue up the next stretch of the river, but you won't hit the next densely populated Salmon pool until you near the bridge just below Cumberland Falls.

As mentioned before, there’s no harm in stocking up on the other kinds of fish available in these rivers, but if your goal is specifically to get the Succulent Fish Meat, you should stick to these locations, and stick to catching just Salmon and Trout. Good luck angler.
