The story of Kratos has been a long and emotional one. From a raging, vengeful god-killer to a stoic, sad god-killer, the Ghost of Sparta has come a long way since he first set out to kill Ares. However, as the new God of War series shows his evolution, it equally focusses on his son and their relationship. Kratos' journey appears to be winding down, but Atreus' is only just beginning.

At last week's BAFTA Game Awards, our very own features editor Jade King got a chance to catch up with the voice behind Atreus' Sunny Suljic. Among other things, they spoke about the future of the God of War series, with regard to Atreus in particular. While Suljic didn't reveal all that much, he did talk about his hopes for the character's future.

"I think there are so many routes where Atreus can go, and people working on the narrative aspects will have a better idea of this than I would," said Suljic. "I think it would be cool to see Atreus grow into a man. I’ve had the opportunity to grow up with the character as well, so I feel like I can see myself a lot in the character as well, so I feel like we’re both developing at the same time."

God of War Ragnarok Kratos and Atreus

While he missed out on the big award, he was overjoyed for those who did receive the honour – his co-stars Christopher Judge and Laya DeLeon Hayes. “I’m just so excited to be here and trying my best to live in the moment as much as possible,” he said.

However, while Kratos and Atreus' relationship evolved on screen, so did Judge and Suljic's, behind the scenes. “After working with Chris for so long, he’s like a father to me. So a lot of these scenes felt real as we were doing the takes and it was really impactful, he added. "It felt like a lot of the work wasn’t even coming off the script, it was all natural dialogue and which was kind of a foreign feeling to me compared to other projects.”
