Sunset Overdrive, the whacky post-apocalyptic shooter starring a former janitor and energy drink-turned mutants, is finally out on PC.
Four years ago, Insomniac games came out with their magnum opus exclusively for the Xbox One. They called in Sunset Overdrive, which both describes the main setting of the game (beautiful Sunset City) as well as the reason why it’s a post-apocalyptic hellscape.
In Sunset Overdrive, you play as a former janitor for FizzCo, an energy drink company on the cusp of debuting their incredible new beverage, Overcharge. Unfortunately, everyone who drinks the stuff at the pre-release party turns into homicidal mutants bent on eating your face.
The rest of the game is just you (or several of your friends) trying to defeat the mutant monsters that have taken over the city with an arsenal of insane weaponry, with only a few of them being blatantly phallic in nature.
This is definitely not a game for underage children.
Sunset Overdrive got a whole bunch of awards the year it was released, including Best Xbox Game of 2014 from IGN, and holds an 81% review score on Metacritic.

And now, after four years of Xbox One exclusivity, Microsoft is finally bringing the game to a home PC near you.
Sunset Overdrive is only available via the Microsoft Store or Steam, so don’t bother looking for a Humble Bundle or GoG deal for this one. The good news is that no marketing exec in the world can justify charging new-release prices for a four-year-old game, so you can grab this bad boy for $19.99.
In addition to the core game, you also get all previously released DLC including Mystery of Mooil Rig, Dawn of the Rise of the Fallen Machines, and a weapons pack that adds even more cooky weaponry to the game’s already eclectic arsenal.
There’s even a physical copy hitting retail stores next week if you just can’t bear to fully get into the digital age (or if your internet sucks and it’d be faster to wait a week and buy it in stores).
And since it’s a PC game, you can even play it in beautiful 1440p. Take that Xbox One.
