The rumors circulating about Mario's 35th-anniversary celebrations were true, as Super Mario 3D All-Stars is coming to Nintendo Switch on September 18.

2020 marks the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. series and Nintendo wasn't likely to ignore it, as it does for the anniversaries of series like F-Zero and Metroid. There have been rumors regarding remastered versions of the 3D Mario titles over the past few months, with many credible sources claiming that the games were being packaged together and would be a major component of the Switch's 2020 line-up.

Nintendo has shadow dropped a Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct, which was filled with announcements for new Mario games and merchandise. The biggest announcement on the show was for Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which is due to be released on September 18. The trailer for the game can be seen below, courtesy of the Nintendo UK YouTube account.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars contains Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. The visuals of all of the games appear to have been improved, while the controls will need to have been adapted for use with the Joy-Cons and the Pro Controller. There is currently no indication that the games contain any new content. It was also revealed that the original Super Mario All-Stars will be added to the Super Nintendo app for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers today, so fans can check out improved versions of the original four Mario games.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a huge deal and it's shocking that Nintendo hasn't announced it sooner, considering how dry the Switch's schedule has appeared to be. The fact that two of the best Mario games of all time (and Sunshine) are coming to the Switch in the same package is a big get for the system, especially when there are so few other first-party titles with release dates on the schedule. Super Mario 3D All-Stars is an incredible deal and it will be one of the must-have purchases for Switch owners in 2020.
