Someone has created a Minecraft mod adding Mario from Super Mario 64 to the game, but don't go getting your hopes up about trying it out for yourself.

Mods are a massive part of gaming. However, how studios react to the use of their mods differs greatly depending on the game and the developer. CDPR welcomes the modding community with open arms, even offering up tools that might help for Cyberpunk 2077. Take-Two, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. Rockstar's parent company is actually suing modders who reverse-engineered GTA 3 and Vice City.

Nintendo also doesn't take kindly to modding. It forced the cancelation of a Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament recently due to its use of a mod allowing the game to be played on a more competitive level. That certainly isn't the first strike for Nintendo, which is why under absolutely no circumstances can you let them find out about the Super Mario 64 Minecraft mode below.

Dylan shared his work on Twitter which shows the Nintendo 64 version of everyone's favorite plumber (sorry Luigi). Dylan has taken the Super Mario 64 engine and applied it to Minecraft. Mario looks the same, performs the same actions as he does in the iconic game, and even has the same bank of catchphrases. He tells viewers midway through the video that he's tired, which makes sense considering all the running and swimming he's doing.

Thanks to the likelihood that Nintendo would move to have the mod deleted should it catch wind of Dylan's work, he has explained in the comments that it isn't available for public consumption. “I sadly can't promise a download, either now or in the future. The most I can do now is post silly videos of what I do in-game with it,” Dylan tweeted.

It's actually somewhat surprising that there hasn't been any official crossover between Minecraft and Mario. Steve was added to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster last year, and Minecraft on Switch is a very popular game. It even returned to number one in the boxed charts a couple of weeks ago. Sonic made an appearance in Minecraft earlier this year to celebrate turning 30. Mario can only do the same via an unofficial mod for now.
