Super Mario Maker 2 will be receiving a special pre-order bonus in Europe and Japan that includes a stylus that is compatible with the Nintendo Switch.

The original Super Mario Maker was one of the few Wii U games to make full use of the GamePad, as players could quickly jump between sketching the stage and actually testing it out. Super Mario Maker 2 is doing things a little differently by allowing players to either create stages using the controller while the Switch is docked or use the touchscreen while the Switch is in handheld mode.

Nintendo and select retailers are offering a stylus with pre-orders of Super Mario Maker 2 that will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch, in order to make it easier for players to create stages while in handheld mode.

The touchscreen on the Nintendo DS and 3DS could be activated by any physical contact, which meant that players could use anything as a stylus. The screen on the Nintendo Switch is similar to the kind used in smartphones, which means that it's designed to be used with a finger. There are capacitive styluses that are compatible with touchscreen devices (such as smartphones and tablets), which seems to be what Nintendo is offering with Super Mario Maker 2.

The loss of the Wii U GamePad doesn't seem to have affected Super Mario Maker 2 too much, though, as the ability to easily switch between handheld and docked mode means that there isn't too much of a disconnect between crafting stages and actually playing them. The ability to use a stylus with the game will also make it easier to place small objects on the screen, which might have been finicky when done using a finger.

Super Mario Maker 2 Limited Edition will also come with a one-year subscription to Nintendo Switch Online, which is just one of several ways that Nintendo has tried to get fans to subscribe to the service of late.

As of the time of writing, the stylus pre-order bonus for Super Mario Maker 2 is exclusive to Europe and Japan. Super Mario Maker 2 is coming to the Nintendo Switch on June 28, 2019.
