This incredible animation shows us what a Banjo-Kazooie game done like Super Mario RPG might look like.

There are few games more timeless than Super Mario RPG. Despite the fact that fans have been calling for a sequel for literally decades, Nintendo just doesn’t budge. At least with Banjo-Kazooie there’s a complicated ownership split between Microsoft and Rare that prevents more of those games from being produced. Nintendo has no excuse for not giving us a new Super Mario RPG.

It falls to game artist Jon Davies to give us a taste of what a Super Mario RPG / Banjo-Kazooie crossover might look like, and man is it sweet.

Davies posted this short video to his Twitter account based on concept art he did back in 2017 with the help of game dev @atbigelow. It features Banjo and Kazooie on what’s clearly a beach level battling it out against a few crabs before a boss crab shows up. The typical options of “Attack, Special, Item,” and “Run” are shown to remind us all of the four cardinal directions of any RPG.

Apparently, Davies is a fan of Banjo-Kazooie. He’s even got a Banjo outfit done up in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
