This list will showcase 10 of the strangest enemies in the mushroom kingdom and players will understand just how weird the Mario world can be. From giant bullets to Koopa wrestlers, here are 10 of the absolute weirdest enemies in the Super Mario franchise that would make even Waluigi shriek in terror!

10 Bullet Bill

Bullet Bill is one of the most iconic enemies in the Super Mario games. It resembles a black bullet with two little arms and a pair of angry-looking eyes. This bullet gives the Mario brothers a run for their money and has been terrorizing them since the beginning.

Bullet Bill attacks Mario and his friends by flying into them and although it is usually a slow enemy it can still be hard to avoid while jumping from platform to platform. Because of how weird a giant bullet with a face is, this enemy is definitely one of the weirdest enemies in the Super Mario franchise to date.

9 Batadon

The Batadon enemy is found exclusively in Super Mario Land. It is a giant head rock and it has white angel wings attached to its body. It is quite the weird one because what kind of stone head would have wings like the ones it has?

This enemy tries to hit Mario by flying towards him with its large wings. Mario can hardly dodge this enemy but being able to beat it is essential to passing through the levels that it inhabits. The Batadon is one of the weirdest enemies in Super Mario Land and one of the weirdest Super Mario enemies in general.

8 Sumo Bro

Sumo Bros are weird enemies that resemble sumo wrestlers in a Koopa themed body. They are yellow and have a spike at the top of their heads. These enemies have appeared in multiple games and they are quite unusual because of their large Koopa appearance.

Mario should steer clear of this enemy because fire will appear above the spot that they bang their feet. Wrestlers are too large for Mario to take on alone, he simply doesn't have the upper body strength. This is a weird enemy that no player enjoys having to deal with, but at least it's not an even more infuriating enemy like the hammer bro!

7 Boo Block

Boo Blocks are especially unusual because they are Boo ghosts that have the ability to turn into blocks. This ability helps disguise them from the Mario brothers and they can be quite the trickster. Players will want to avoid dealing with these enemies any more than they have to.

It's not every day that Mario has to face an enemy with an ability like this one and this tricky transforming ghost has fooled him on more than one occasion. Make sure not to run into one of these unless trying to use them as a platform, because they haunt unsuspecting players.

6 Blargg

The Blargg enemy has one of the strangest designs in any Super Mario game to release so far. It resembles a dinosaur and the look on its face is somewhat silly. Their odd design is what really takes the cake for making these enemies a strange sight to see.

Blarggs have an orange color scheme and are found living in lava pits within the Super Mario games. There aren't many enemies that can survive the lava in the Mario world so this is one enemy that players should definitely fear, even if it looks kind of like a goofy dinosaur.

5 Thwomp

The Thwomp enemy is a giant weird creature made of rock. It lives its life in castles waiting for people like the Mario brothers to come by so it can crush them with its large body. The design of this enemy is quite strange and there aren't many enemies like it in the Super Mario series.

Most players that have beaten a Super Mario game will remember Thwomps for falling on their heads and sending them back to the beginning of the level. Most enemies somewhat resemble an animal or object of some kind but this enemy's design is completely original and also so weird!

4 Fuzzy

Fuzzy is a weird enemy that will attack Mario by covering his head and absorbing his energy. This enemy is mostly black and has a large mouth with four teeth. One look at this enemy and players will want to hightail it back to the mushroom kingdom because it isn't too friendly looking.

Fuzzy enemies were first seen terrorizing Mario in Super Mario World but have been in a variety of different Super Mario games since. Players need to be careful around this one because even though it doesn't look too intimidating it definitely can do a number on the plumber and his friends!

3 Chain Chomp

The Chain Chomp enemy will remind players of dogs on a leash. It is a weird looking enemy with just a round head and it bounces around, springing itself at its enemies. Mario is terrified of this enemy because it can chomp down on him and one-shot the player.

Its body is black with two eyes and a bunch of sharp teeth. There are few enemies that are both as weird and also commonly known as the Chain Chomp which is why this enemy is one of the main contenders for the title of Weirdest Super Mario enemy of all time.

2 Madpole

Madpoles are a very weird looking tadpole creature that players will encounter while adventuring in Super Mario 3D World. Their color scheme consists of blue and white and they are large tadpole creatures that just want to destroy Mario. They swim towards Mario while he is in the water and it makes for another annoying water enemy that the plumber must navigate around.

Players will want to get out of the water the second they run into a Madpole because they want to defeat Mario and make sure he doesn't get any further. Luckily Mario and his pals have dealt with weird water enemies in the past. So this peculiar looking tadpole isn't gonna bring the player down!

1 Goomba

Anybody that has played a Super Mario game has defeated at least one of these weird enemies. Its design resembles a large brown mushroom with feet. Players easily jump on this enemy to defeat it and it shouldn't prove much of a challenge even to completely novice players.

Because Goombas are so weird-looking and also one of the most well known Super Mario enemies, they deserve the number one spot on this list as the weirdest enemy in the Super Mario franchise. At least this little mushroom is popular, despite being so weird!
