Super Monkey Ball gets its name from the fact you're a monkey inside a ball, but one group of YouTubers decided to find out what the games would be like without one of those key elements.

There's a list as long as your arm of the different video game series celebrating major milestones this year. One even Sega probably didn't think would still be around 20 years later is Super Monkey Ball. Two decades after the very first Super Monkey Ball was released, a special remastered version of the first three games with a load of new extras is coming to all major platforms next month.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania will be here on October 5. However, one group of YouTubers has decided to celebrate Aiai's birthday in a slightly different way. By removing the balls from the monkey's game altogether. Balbod, Skitty, and someone only referred to as Llama recreated the original game, but removed its balls.

You can see the results for yourselves in the video below detailing how and why the trio wanted to see what the 20-year-old game would be like without its biggest gimmick. Rather than controlling the floor and using it to move a ball around, you take control of Aiai, connecting bananas and simply running over the finish line once you're done.

The game clearly isn't nearly as challenging when your monkey is on foot. However, if you'd like to give it a try, Balbod and Skitty have made their version available for anyone to download and play. It's called Super Monkey Monkey, which is what Balbod's phone auto-corrected Super Monkey Ball to, and took the trio just three days to create.

While Sonic is going anywhere that will have him to celebrate turning 30, including Banana Mania, Aiai and the gang are having people over to theirs for Super Monkey Ball's 20th. Not just Sonic and Tails, but also Hello Kitty, Yakuza's Kiryu Kazuma, and Jet Set Radio's Beat, all of whom will be playable characters. Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania launches on console and PC on October 5, 2021.
