Universal Studios Hollywood has announced that Super Nintendo World is heading to its theme park in Los Angeles, California in early 2023.Universal Studios Hollywood said the "colourful land of play" is to feature the Mario Kart Bowser's Challenge ride, along with "imaginative interactive areas", themed shopping and dining, on its website.Related: Pokemon Needs To Play With Its Balls MoreFrom a trailer, it looks like the Mario Kart Bowser's Challenge is a VR and arcade experience, with people sitting in Karts and wearing headsets. "Put on the special goggles and battle Team Bowser on iconic Mario Kart courses alongside Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach", the official description says. "Collect coins and throw shells to win the Golden Cup on the world's first interactive Mario Kart ride with cutting-edge technology at Super Nintendo World".

Currently, the only Super Nintendo World in operation is located at Universal Studios Japan, which is in Osaka. But there are three Super Nintendo Worlds in construction: at Universal Studios Singapore, Universal Orlando Resort, and at Universal Studios Hollywood which we now know will be running in early 2023.

Nintendo and Universal agreed to the partnership back in 2015, as the Japanese games giant explored new avenues for its business. Universal executive Tom Schroder said at the time that "the immersive experiences will include major attractions at Universal’s theme parks and will feature Nintendo’s most famous characters and games".

Although known for its bankable mascots and well-reviewed and mega-selling games, Nintendo has been slow or hesitant to move into areas such as theme parks or mobile games. But as it expands beyond its native Japan, people in Southeast Asia and in America will soon have the choice of indulging in the Mario and Nintendo experience in real life, although virtual reality looks like it will be giving some of the attractions a hand.
