The famed creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros. Masahiro Sakurai has given an in-depth interview where the Japanese game designer and director spoke at length about his YouTube channel and also about life in semi-retirement. Speaking to Japanese publication Denfaminicogamer – the article was handily translated by PushDustin on Twitter (thanks for your service) – the veteran developer revealed more about his YouTube channel 'Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games' which he started around four months ago. The man responsible for the likes of Kid Icarus: Uprising and formerly of game studio HAL Laboratory certainly keeps himself busy in semi-retirement. He went on to say he consults with other companies, such as Nintendo, while he works on his videos but that ultimately he has the final say.

Sakurai documents his enviable expertise in video game design, with YouTube videos on various aspects of the craft, making his channel a fascinating repository of knowledge. In the interview the veteran developer said he believes the work on Super Smash Bros. is important as it includes so many different characters and concepts from the industry. He is very happy to have worked on the series.

In the interview, Sakurai also confirmed that he is semi-retired. The game designer and director, who is 52 years old, felt that if he is always in active game development, his life will be over before he realises it, according to PushDustin's summary (which we have verified).

In his semi-retirement, Sakurai is also finding time to read manga, of which he has over 6000 volumes on his device, and also to play video games! He recently completed Sonic Frontiers, Bayonetta 3, and God of War Ragnarok, which he does while riding his exercise bike. Since time has become a more treasured thing to him, he prefers to play games with "a lot of impact".

There are certainly more details in the interview so head on over to PushDustin's twitter thread for more.
