As is usually the company’s way, Nintendo have taken a different approach to E3 than their competitors in recent years. Nevertheless, it all boils down to showing off your biggest upcoming games, and for Nintendo and Switch, there’s little bigger than Super Smash Bros. Which is why the game is set to hit the show in a big way.

That’s right, friends. The biggest event of the gaming calendar is almost upon us. On June 12, E3 2018 kicks off in Los Angeles. The official site for the event promises over 2000 on display, from upcoming games to peripherals and all manner of other technology in between.

As fans will know, Nintendo’s history with the Electronic Entertainment Expo has been interesting. In 2013 and 2014, for instance, they opted to drop some of their patented quirky Nintendo Directs for the audience, instead of making their reveals and presentations in person. You can never quite tell what you’re going to get with the unpredictable Japanese giant, but we do know one thing for sure: we’re going to see a lot of Smash Bros. Switch at E3 this year.

As Nintendo Life reports, Nintendo’s big E3 activities will kick off with some high-level Splatoon 2 action, in the form of the World Championship Tournament. The splat-tastic action will begin on Monday, June 11, with the finals taking place the following day. Immediately after that, the Super Smash Bros. Invitational 2018 Tournament begins.

Elsewhere during the show, the company’s familiar Nintendo Treehouse presentations will also be running. At these quirky events, footage from the biggest upcoming titles are showcased, and of course, Smash Bros. is going to be central to that as well. Between all of that, and the fact that the game is going to be playable at the Nintendo booth, it’s going to be Smash-amundo over here.

Quite rightly too. For so many fans, the game immediately rocketed to the top of Switch most-wanted games lists on its reveal. As of the time of writing, that brief teaser is still all we have to go on, but rest assured: that curtain is going to be lifted in a big way come June.
