The next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate event is going back to the days of the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, and PlayStation, as all of the characters and stages in will be from the '90s.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been running themed events in the tournament mode for a while now, which restrict the number of playable characters and stages or use specific items and rulesets. Recent events include only using characters from Super Smash Bros. Melee, a tournament where every character starts out as a giant, and a stamina tournament based on traditional fighting games.

The list of playable characters includes Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Ness, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Sheik, Dr. Mario, Pichu, Falco, Marth, Young Link, Ganondorf, Mewtwo, Meta Knight, Wario, Pokémon Trainer, Diddy Kong, Sonic, King Dedede, Wolf, Cloud, Richter, King K. The '90s produced some of the greatest video games and systems of all time, many of which have contributed to the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There are many people out there who fondly remember the 16 and 32-bit eras, so they'll have a chance to show their love for the characters and levels of the time period in the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate event.
The '90s event for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will run from February 21 to February 24, 2020.
