The next event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate involves lots of animal Spirits, as it pits players against enemies with big ears.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been hosting regular online events since launch and some of them have had bizarre concepts. The most recent event involved gun-toting Spirits, which makes sense, considering how many characters in the game use firearms, but there have also been hair-themed tournaments and events involving blue characters.
The fact that Minecraft Steve has just arrived in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would suggest that the next event would involve him in some way, but Nintendo has gone in a different direction. According to the SmashBrosJP Twitter page and an update sent out to owners of the game, the next event is "Better to Hear You With", and it involves characters with big ears.
The "Better to Hear You With" event features battles against four Timed Spirits that will appear over the course of three days - Victini, Rover, Mega Lucario, and Fox Luigi. These will also appear as random Spirits, alongside Partner Pikachu, Partner Eevee, Rabbid Mario, Rabbid Peach, Arcade Bunny, Little Birdie, Rouge the Bat, Infinite, Cream & Cheese, Yellow Pikmin, Digby, Harriet, Kafei, Ravio, Tac, Alolan Raichu, Meowth, Ellie, Looksley, Bokoblin, Big the Cat, Zipper T. Bunny, Vulpix, Alolan Vulpix, Marill, Dedenne, Boney, and Serena. Defeating these enemies will earn you Snacks that can be fed to your existing group of Spirits.
The fact that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the biggest video game crossover of all time helps in providing the developers with enough material to create strange themes for events. The Animal Crossing, Pokemon, and Sonic franchises are filled with creatures with giant auricles, so it's easy to base an online tournament around them. We can only wonder what body parts Masahiro Sakurai and his team will focus on next?
The "Better to Hear You With" event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will run from October 16 to 19.
