Retro and classic video game streaming platform Anstream Arcade recently announced that it has struck a deal to bring a series of Star Wars games to its playing audience. As of January 21, Anstream Arcade gamers will be able to play Super Star Wars, Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi through its game streaming service.

According to the press release, this is the first time all three of these Star Wars games have been available on a single platform. Subscribers to the Antstream Arcade’s cloud-based streaming service now have access to 3,786 licensed video games with the addition of these three new ones, and all for just the price of a flat monthly subscription. The press release adds that all Anstream Arcade games “are available using any 4G connection or better, and are playable on almost any device”.

The three Star Wars games new to the Anstream Arcade library include the Super Star Wars series for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), and were published way back in 1992 (Super Star Wars), 1993 (Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back), and 1994 (Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi). In addition to the Lucasfilm-granted Star Wars licenses, the announcement follows other recent announcements of licenses obtained for Atari, Bandai-Namco, and Taito games, which helps to make Anstream Arcade’s library “the world's largest collection of retro games.”

“We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing the retro Star Wars series to customers, taking us one step closer to delivering thousands of iconic games to the global gaming community through the power of streaming technology,” said Steve Cottam, CEO of Antstream. “The fact will be able to play Star Wars for the SNES on their laptop, Grim Fandango on their TV or Day of the Tentacle is a massive win for both existing and new audiences.”

Adding yet again to those announcements, the press release states that Anstream Arcade will be adding the iconic adventure games Grim Fandango and the Monkey Island series to its library. As an Antstream Arcade subscriber, you get access to more than just the original game. Many games are upgraded to include “challenge modes, tournaments and international leader boards”, giving those games’ previous players a new experience with the game, and giving new players the modern social aspects of video gaming they expect.
