Nintendo has confirmed the dock for its new OLED model will be available separately through its online store.

After months of waiting for Nintendo to admit that it was working on a new Switch, it finally showed its hand this week. Not be unveiling a more powerful Switch Pro, as was rumored, but via the all-new OLED Model. The new Switch has a bigger OLED screen, a better stand, and a few others features that make it slightly better than a regular Switch.

As well as the stand, the OLED Model's dock has rounded edges and, perhaps most importantly, a port for a LAN cable. That will allow its owners a more stable internet connection should they need it. In even better news, Nintendo has since confirmed to Digital Trends that the dock will be available to buy separately.

“The white dock and black dock will be sold separately (no HDMI cable, no AC adaptor, not in a package) on the Nintendo online store. It will not be sold at retail,” Nintendo confirmed. As noted, that also means you will be able to buy the OLED Model's great-looking new white dock without having to hand over $350 for an entirely new console. The dock will not be sold separately anywhere other than Nintendo's online store.

As for the price, that was not revealed by Nintendo. For a rough idea, you can currently buy a regular dock from its online store for $60, or a refurbished one for $40. Odds are the OLED Model's dock will be slightly more expensive. While it won't include any cables when bought separately, everything else remains the same. That means you will be able to keep your regular Switch in there as well as your OLED Model should you pick one up.

The OLED Model launches on October 8, 2021, and has received mixed reactions so far. Those hoping for a more powerful console have ultimately been left disappointed. Nintendo was quick to confirm that internally, the OLED model is pretty much the same as a normal Switch. No improved CPU or added RAM. If a bigger screen and more memory is what you want from a new Switch though, then the OLED Model's reveal will have been very welcome news.
