It's okay, you can admit it. The Switch isn't the most comfortable handheld console in the world. However, it would appear that Nintendo is well aware of this and might be working on a solution.
Honestly, it's hard to complain about the Nintendo Switch. Even when we do find something we don't like about the console, we feel a little dirty vocalizing those complaints. For example, why can't we watch Netflix on the console? And what's with having to use a separate (and frankly pretty terrible) app in order to communicate with other players online?
The one thing Switch players seem most reluctant to discuss is how uncomfortable it can be to use the console in its handheld mode. The whole point of the Switch is that we can play it at home and on the go. However, if we play it in handheld mode for an extended period of time, we get some serious cramps in our hand and struggle to get a grip on the console.
Before you hit back and claim we are complaining about a non-existent issue, Nintendo is clearly aware that there's a problem. That was made clear via some leaked patents in Japan recently, as reported by Polygon. The potential new designs show Switch joy-cons which bend at the top. Other designs include cons that are curved at the bottom too, presumably making them much more comfortable to hold.
As you can see from the designs, if released, Switch players would be able to get a much better grip on the console. The trouble is, none of this is official yet and there's a chance that it never will be. Even if new Switch controllers are incoming, we have the highly anticipated released of the Switch Lite to come first. We wouldn't expect any announcements regarding more comfortable controllers until way after that.
For those of you who agree with us and our opinions on how uncomfortable the Switch is in handheld mode, there are unofficial solutions available now. That will have to do for now, but keep your eyes peeled for any news from Nintendo regarding an official solution.
