The Nintendo Switch's new update automatically turns on data sharing even if you turned it off. Here's how to change it back.

Nintendo rolled out a new update for the Switch this week and for the most part, it has done a lot of good, as you would expect from an update. It allows you to share photos and videos far easier than ever before. Photos can now be shared to phones using a QR code, and to PCs via a USB connection. You can find everything you need to know about how to share videos and photos on Switch in TheGamer's handy new guide.

There is one not so great element about the new Switch update, and it relates to data sharing. There's a toggle deep in the console's menus that determines whether its user is okay with your data being shared with Nintendo. Many of you might have sought out that toggle and turned it off.

However, if you have downloaded the 11.0 update, Nintendo has now turned that toggle back on. Pretty sneaky, especially since there's no mention of it anywhere and as we hinted at above, the toggle isn't exactly front and center. Some of you won't mind sharing your data with Nintendo, but if you do, here's how to find the switch and turn it back off.

  • First of all, you'll need to click on your profile icon in the top left corner of the home screen.
  • Next, you'll need to hit Nintendo eShop Settings which you'll be able to find by scrolling down.
  • Click on your icon again and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and hit Change.
  • That should then give you the option to change Share, which should be highlighted, to Don't Share.

That's it, all done. You will no longer share your data with Nintendo until the next update at least. It's probably worth sporadically checking in on this setting as you never know when Nintendo might decide to switch it back to Share again. Sneaky and somewhat annoying for some if you don't want to share data, but something Nintendo is unfortunately allowed to do.
