Synduality, a sci-fi mech game from Bandai Namco, has been revealed during Sony's latest State of Play.

Sony just held its latest State of Play conference, revealing some new projects like Tekken 8 and Rise of the Ronin, alongside giving us some updates on already-announced games, such as Project Eve being renamed Stellar Blade. One of the more surprising reveals of the showcase was Synduality, a sci-fi mech game from Bandai Namco that sees players exploring a world filled with acid rain and deadly creatures in order to reclaim land for humans.

The trailer showed a mech being guided by an AI partner, seemingly named Magus, across a landscape in search of resources and land for the humans. We see the mech exploring the environment and looking for AO crystals, as well as engaging small creatures in sword and gun battles. A brief shot in the trailer also shows a few mechs fighting one another, as well as showing the player going up against a much larger creature, showing the world to be quite dangerous.

Yosuke Fatami, producer on Synduality, revealed a little more about the premise and plot in a new post on the PlayStation Blog following the game's reveal. Fatami said, "It all started a couple of years back when our team grouped together and passionately discuss how can we break ourselves into—or even break the whole barrier, of the sci-fi genre. With the emergence of technology these days, and how artificial intelligence slowly becoming more prominent in our daily lives, we were particularly interested in how humans and AI would interact with each other in the future. Will they coexist?"

Fatami also gave a brief rundown on how Synduality actually plays, saying, "In the world of Synduality, you will take on a role as Drifters—who makes a living by collecting AO Crystals; a rare resource that can only be obtained in dangerous terrestrial environment. You will take on each mission in your Cradle Coffin—an armed vehicle that will get you mobile during the adventure. Players can personalize their Cradle Coffin—not only its appearance, but the weapons equipped as well to make your Cradle Coffin suit your own play style."
