Video game developer Code Heretic and publisher Black Tower recently announced their post-apocalyptic turn-based strategy game Against the Moon is now available to preorder on Steam and GOG.com. Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the game is still currently on schedule for a September 24, 2020 release date.

Against the Moon is available in two editions: Monk Edition and Ultori Edition. Both are also available to preorder, with the Monk Edition currently discounted to $17.99 ($19.99 on official launch date), and the Ultori Edition (which includes a digital artbook and official digital soundtrack) priced at $24.99.

Both Steam and GOG.com have the Against The Moon: Prologue available, a free demo of the game that includes the first story chapter, and introduces the main characters and game mechanics, and tells “an independent story about the start of confrontation between mankind and unknown creatures, that swarmed the Earth.”

Against the Moon is a turn-based deckbuilding strategy game with roguelike elements, similar to such games as Hand of Fate and Slay the Spire. However, Against the Moon takes the deckbuilding mechanics a step further along the genre evolution path by making it so that each card played can expand along two different strategic paths. This allows you to better adapt to your opponent’s strategy by giving you a wider variety of options to employ proactively and reactively.

The game is set in a bleak, post-apocalyptic sci-fi future, where strange and deadly creatures have taken over the earth, and pushed what remains of humanity into a single ancient stronghold called Arx. This last remnant of civilization is safe behind the walls, for the moment. With resources running lower and decreasing each day, and with the old tech slowly failing, it’s only a matter of time before the creatures at the walls break through.

You take on the role of an Ultori, a superhuman created from Arx’s last valuable resources as a last-ditch effort of survival, and are sent beyond the walls to find and bring back more resources. Outside Arx, you’ll encounter the Furos beasts, and if you survive, may also discover the reasons that led to the downfall of the Ancients.
