Square Enix has confirmed last week’s leak. Tactics Ogre: Reborn, a remake of the 1995 tactical role-playing game Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, will arrive on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 11.
Today’s announcement has verified many of the details already stated in last week’s leak. Square Enix has remade Tactics Ogre using what seems to be a variation of its highly popular HD-2D art style, providing new sprites, enhanced backgrounds, and beautiful portraits for both the player’s characters and NPCs. Each character will be full voiced in both English and Japanese, with remastered sound effects and a rerecorded soundtrack courtesy of original composer Hitoshi Sakimoto. It’ll even feature a live orchestra.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn is based on the 2010 PSP remake, which means it’ll already have a lot of the enhancements that the PlayStation Portable version received. This includes additional multiplayer functionality, new characters, new scenes, equipment crafting, and the World Tarot and Chariot Tarot cards that let you revisit past portions of the game’s story and combat to alter its ending.
Other improvements for Tactics Ogre: Reborn over the PSP version include an updated user interface with streamlined controls, a new unit-by-unit leveling system that replaces the previous class-wide level management system, and overhauled unit AI which better responds to player tactics and battlefield situations. There’s also a new autosave feature and generally faster battle animations courtesy of the enhanced hardware of today.
In case you hadn’t played either the 1995 original or the 2010 remake, Tactics Ogre: Reborn takes place in the island nation of Valiera. Following the death of a beloved king, the country falls into a bloody civil war as ehtnic factions fight to secure the crown. You play as Denam Pavel, leading a rebellion group that seeks to end the civil war and restore peace to the land.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn will hit PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on November 11.
