Take-Two Interactive is sticking to their guns when it comes to Red Dead Redemption 2’s release date.

We know it’s been a long wait, but that wait at least looks like it won’t be getting any longer. Take-Two’s CEO says the company is sticking to their Oct 26th release date and that nothing will push it back any longer.

In an interview on CNBC’s Mad Money, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick wasn’t apologetic when asked about Red Dead Redemption 2 and its multiple delays. Instead, he took the question square in the chest with a bold statement: “Hand on heart, it's October 26th."

Shortly after RDR2 was announced it was given a tentative release date of late 2017. Soon after it was pushed back to Spring of 2018, but at the beginning of the year Rockstar Games again announced a delay but this time provided eager fans with a firm date.

Of course, Zelnich works for the publisher (Take-Two Interactive) and not the developer, Rockstar. But he quickly clarified that when he confirmed the October 26th release date he was actually speaking for everyone at Rockstar Games. "That's right--when I said 'hand on heart', it's over 1,000 people at Rockstar Games with their hands over their hearts."

Zelnich was also quizzed on the popularity of Red Dead Redemption and why it seems to be the only Western-styled game to have achieved success. "Conventional wisdom before we launched Red Dead Redemption was that Westerns don't work in video games,” the CEO said.

“That's no longer conventional wisdom because Red Dead Redemption was a huge hit. I think now the question is Western's seem to find their moment at certain times and I believe this is one of those moments."

When asked how Red Dead Redemption 2 would deal with a market flooded with gamers hooked on battle Royale games such as Fortnite, Zelnich seemed confident that those same gamers would flock to RDR2 while still remaining Fortnite players.

“My view is that it'd be great if we could corner the market on all hits, the emphasis is on innovation not derivation.”

That said, leaked info from earlier this year suggested that Red Dead Redemption 2 will ship with a battle royale multiplayer mode very similar to Fortnite.
