Like most modern JRPGs, Tales of Arise has a handful of ways for you to customize members of their party. There are many different outfits for each character in Tales of Arise, which get unlocked in many ways and put their quirky personalities on full display. Which is all you can ask for in a series like Tales.
Tales of Arise is a game about friendship, perseverance, and loyalty. However, it's also a game with incredible style, art direction, and execution, making the additional outfits feel like they belong in the world and something each character would rock without hesitation. At least for the most part.
Ragged Clothes
No offense to Alphen here, but his starting Outfit in Tales of Arise is pretty bad. It's not like he can help it or anything, but the fact remains that it is by far the worst of the bunch. However, Alphen does see a significant glow up in his wardrobe, so it's not all bad.
Farmer's Clothes (Entire Cast)
Many people may love this outfit, and it sure has some aspects of redeeming qualities, but it's just too much. The hat, the overalls, and the large pockets are comically bad. Not even Dohalim can make the Farmer's Clothes look stylish, which goes to show just how awful it is.
White One Piece
The White One Piece is Shionne's starting attire, and while leagues better than Alphen's (sorry, bud), she has much better clothing options later in the game. This outfit isn't terrible by any means, but we feel it lacks character for someone like Shionne.
Wolfless Vest
Law's giant, metal wolf head is a staple of his wardrobe, and we shall not stand for its removal! This is easily Law's worst outfit and takes away his quirkiness/seriousness in one fell swoop. Who would have thought the wolf head was that special?
Green Wolf Vest
Green and white are tricky to pull off, and it fails in this Outfit of Law's. While it still has the wolf head, which is vital, the coloring scheme leaves a lot desired. With much better coloring options obtainable, this outfit is easily one of his weakest.
Steamy Towel (Entire Cast)
The "Hot Springs Anime Trope" rears its ugly head once again in Tales of Arise, leaving each cast member a Steamy Towel Outfit to wear with pride. While not a terrible Outfit in the grand scheme of things (it could have been much worse), it comes at the price of a weird, drawn-out, creepy trope, which is why it sinks so low.
Clerk Uniform (Entire Cast)
Unlike the terrible Farmer's Clothes from earlier, the Clerk Uniform makes the cast look stylish from head to toe. Each member of the crew rock this outfit, which is why we prefer it over some of the other "group clothes" that popped up prior.
Inherited Coat
Rinwell's starting outfit is incredible but easily her weakest than the other color schemes or themed Outfits. The Inherited Coat is filled with character and has an excellent color scheme, but it isn't enough to compete with the others.
Decoy Guardsman Armor
Kisara has one of the best starting Outfits in Tales of Arise, which is why you haven't seen much of her up to this point. And, even here, you can tell her Decoy Guardsman Armor isn't necessarily bad, but it is her weakest compared to the rest of her wardrobe.
Bureau Uniform
When you first meet Law in Tales of Arise, you will see him in his Bureau Uniform. While not his best by any stretch, Law really pulls off the look, and the predominantly black clothing makes for a cool Outfit overall.
Blue Inherited Coat
With a slight change in color from her default Outfit, the Blue Inherited Coat pops in a much better way. The color scheme is almost identical to the original, but a darker blue and more yellow make it stand out and improve on an already pretty good Outfit.
Silver Wolf Vest
After Law stops working for the Bureau, he dawns the metal wolf on his right shoulder and takes charge of his own life. This Outfit of Law's is significantly better than the Wolfless variant and his Bureau Uniform, and it only gets better from here.
Fiery Teacher Suit
While Kisara is the best-fit character for the "teacher uniform," it feels out of place for her execution-wise. While there is nothing wrong with an outfit like this from time to time, we feel like Kisara's character would never be a "Fiery Teacher." However, the suit on its own has excellent color schemes and looks fantastic overall, which is why it's higher than the others.
Ocean Blue Battle Garb
After Alphen finally gets out of his awful tattered clothes, he wears a cleanly tailored set of battle clothing, which is a vast improvement. However, the olive green pants take some points away, as they ruin the general theme of the outfit. With that said, it's still a solid choice nonetheless.
Noble Crimson
The Noble Crimson is an incredible alternate color scheme to Shionne's stunning Noble Scarlett Outfit. However, it does fall a tad short of the original due to the lack of additional colors. If there were more black highlights, or the red was a touch darker, it would probably be higher.
Scarlet Inherited Coat
The Scarlet Inherited Coat of Rinwell's is strikingly similar to Shionne's Outfit directly above it but executes the design much better. The black shirt/shorts under the dark red coat is a great touch, and the red leggings underneath the black boots top everything off.
il Qaras Traditional Attire
Were you wondering where Dohalim was? Did you think he'd somehow be lower? Dohalim is the definition of style and rocks pretty much any attire he wears. Take his default Outfit, for example. It's sensational and oozes elegance from head to toe.
Midnight Battle Garb
Look familiar? The Midnight Battle Garb is an alternate color scheme of Alphen's Ocean Blue Battle Garb Outfit and is much better in every way. Instead of olive green pants, he now has a dark blue pair, with black gloves and a darker blue on his shirt to complement the other changes. This version of the outfit changes the vast majority of complaints we had with the original.
Sincleaver Armor
Whenever Alphen wears the Sincleaver Armor for the first time, you can tell it's a perfect fit. The black metal armor is highlighted excellently by the dark blue, tattered cape that wraps around his neck like a scarf. This outfit is incredible and genuinely one of Alphen's best.
Boys' School Uniform
The School Attire costume packs are pretty good for the most part, and Alphen's is no exception. Alphen's Boys' School Uniform has excellent colors to choose from, including a fancy hairstyle to go along with it. This uniform is fun and seems like something Alphen would wear to school.
Rapscallion Wetsuit
Law's beach uniform is a bit much for the beach but genuinely looks very good with its choices of color and designs. While we stand by it being overkill, it deserves its place in the middle of the list as he could be a great surfer. Even if he isn't, you have to start somewhere, eh?
Noble Scarlet
The Noble Scarlet is Shionne's first outfit change seeing her go from the White One Piece to a stunning dress. It's no wonder this outfit made Alphen stop in his tracks, as it is a work of art from head to toe. Shionne's red tiara match expertly with her red bows tied around both her arms, as well as the red inside of her dress. This outfit is well done and fits Shionne's character perfectly.
Guardsman Armor
Kisara's default Guardsman Armor is incredible in basically every sense. The standard white armor plates with gold highlights over a black undersuit are simple, efficient, and look absolutely killer. Kisara may very well have the best starting attire in the entire game.
Heroic Surf Shorts
Unlike Law's over-the-top beachwear, Alphen dials things back a bit with a more standard Outfit. The trunks and sandals are solid, especially when paired with the color scheme each of them has. The only thing that feels out of place is the jacket, but at least it isn't a random sleeve and glove.
Silver Sincleaver Armor
Speaking of killer armor, this alternate color of Alphen's Sincleaver Armor is excellent. The silver plates of armor go great with the golden cape and black undersuit, and neither of the colors is offensive or distracting, making it a shoo-in for one of Alphen's best.
Rapscallion Swimsuit
There isn't much to say about the Rapscallion Swimsuit other than it is a fun, playful beach Outfit for Rinwell. The life vest is a great touch, and the colors pop out at you in a good way. It may not be the best beach attire, but it isn't the worst by any stretch.
Noble Azure
The balance of Shionne's Noble Azure compared to her Crimson variant is night and day. The deep purple with a light blue inside flows much better and looks striking. When paired with her Violet Tiara, the outfit comes alive even further, making it a must-wear.
Owl Uniform
Rinwell's Owl Uniform is not only adorable but fits her personality and character. Her knit wooled barret, crossbody purse, and excellent color pairing make this one of the best school attires in the game. Rinwell pulls this outfit off with ease.
Principal Coat
Surprise, surprise, Dohalim crushes yet another Outfit, this time being the Principal Coat. However, this outfit's only downside is that Dohalim looks more like a vampire than a Principal, but he still kills it. So, it doesn't matter all that much. We guess.
Girls' School Uniform
Keeping the school uniform theme going strong, Shionne's steals the spotlight with an excellent Outfit. While all of them look incredible, Shionne's blue and white Girl's School Uniform is expertly crafted, with diamond printed leggings, a bright blue skirt, and a casual hairstyle. Shionne looks fabulous here.
il Qaras Dancing Attire
Dohalim's default attire is excellent on its own, but when you start tweaking its colors, it somehow gets much better. Enter the il Quaras Dancing Attire, which displays a deep soothing blueish-green robe with gold trim. The colors in this outfit mix incredibly well, making it easy on the eyes.
Red-White Wolf Vest
When everything is dependant on color pairing and placement, it can often be tricky to nail a style or look. However, in Law's case, the Red-White Wolf Vest is a fantastic pairing of colors. The bright white pants contrasted by the dark red sleeveless shirt are perfect and make everything pop, and the gold trim/wolf head is a great touch.
Tunica Rene (Alphen, Shionne, Dohalim)
Only Alphen, Shionne, and Dohalim can wear the Tunica Rene for story reasons, but they all pull off wearing them in spades. The white shirt, pants, and shoes with golden designs weaved throughout make them look significant and influential.
il Qaras Festive Attire
Dohalim is back here with another excellent color packet for his attire. This time is a lovely rich purple and white robe that bounce off each other perfectly. The il Qaras Festive Attire is one of Dohalim's sharpest uniforms in his wardrobe, which is high praise.
Silent Assassin
Kisara dressing up as Nina from Tekken is an excellent plan and a well-executed one at that. Kisara pulls off the look so well that we almost wanted her to ditch her shield and mace to try and replicate Nina's fighting style. But, alas, Kisara's moveset is already pretty solid, so it wasn't a deal-breaker.
Explosive Swim Briefs
We know there has been lots of praise for Dohalim's wardrobe thus far, but it sadly won't end here if you're against it for whatever reason. Dohalim gets it, and he's just going to the beach and prepared accordingly. While the jacket does seem excessive, Dohalim has a speedo, sandals, and a headband on, which signals he wants to go to the beach and have fun. No need to go overboard. Looking at you, Law.
Vacation Bikini
Much like Dohalim, Kisara's Vacation Bikini beach attire is surprisingly one of the few Outfits that actually portray the character going to the beach. Shades? Check. Bikini? Check. And Sandals? also good. Kisara is ready to relax on the beach, get a nice tan, and maybe venture into the ocean for a bit, and she will look great doing it.
Gold Sincleaver Armor
Alphen's Gold Sincleaver Armor is a fantastic combination of golden armor plates with a black cape and undersuit. This outfit is one of Alphen's best and definitely amongst the top color schemes for the Sincleaver Armor in general.
Twilight One Piece
While the all-white outfit seemed to lack character, the Twilight One Piece comes at a crucial part of the story and looks incredible. The White One Piece was okay but lacked any depth or expression. However, the events that transpire and reveal the Twilight One Piece are unforgettable and make it one of Shionne's best outfits.
Lunar Inherited Coat
As for alternate colors on default outfits, Rinwell's Lunar Inherited Coat is her best one. The white, purple, and gold color combination will always look incredible, no matter what it's on. The best part about this outfit is how the colors are balanced and well placed.
Ceremonial Wolf Garb
No metal wolf head? No problem. Law dawns a fluffy wolf head hat and wooly clothing with the Ceremonial Wolf Garb outfit for the harsh winter. This attire is incredible and fits Law perfectly, encapsulating his lone wolf mentality and loyalty. It looks so cool and very, very warm.
Copper Sincleaver Armor
The Copper Sincleaver Armor of Alphen's is stunning, with its splashes of red thanks to the cape and reddish-brown color thanks to the copper material of the armor plates themselves. The color palette of this armor isn't spectacular on its own, but when put together in this style, it's hard to argue just how great it looks.
Noble Ash
Yet again, Shionne rocks a primarily black outfit with the Noble Ash. This outfit is spectacular, with a few areas, such as the inside and shoulders having a white accent. While not her best alternate color scheme of her stunning dress, it is close to it.
il Qaras Mourning Attire
Dohalim's wardrobe makes for some genuinely incredible color combinations, with the il Qarus Mourning Attire being a prime example of that. The deep, rich purple pairs expertly with the dark black robe and golden outlines. Dohalim is a man of style and elegance, and that shines through here.
Samurai Armor
Alphen's Samurai Armor is meticulously crafted and looks incredible in action. However, the color choices are a bit of a letdown, but not enough to keep it from the top half of the list. On their own, each color is fantastic, but we wish this set had a more "realistically colored" one to balance it out.
SW-EQ01M
The oddly named SW-EQ01M armor set for Alphen looks violent and ominous. The details woven throughout the chest piece are subtle yet bring life to the entire outfit. Alphen's mask also gives off a mysterious vibe that brings everything together. The only downside to this outfit is it looks a bit too bulky in combat, but it's too cool for that to be an issue.
Aquatic Guardsman Armor
Kisara's Aquatic Guardsman Armor brings a beautiful light violet color palette to her classic armor design. Additionally, the armor has golden highlights that help bring out the color further, with a black undersuit to achieve the same thing. This outfit is easily one of Kisara's best.
Chic Vagabond
With a tough-to-manage color palette of browns, white, blue, green, and a tiny splash of red, you would think it would be near impossible to pull off. However, as you know by now, nothing is out of the realm of possibility when it comes to Dohalim. The Chic Vegabond attire has Dohalim sport a turban, harem pants, and a fantastic shawl of sorts over top of a white shirt. Dohalim knocks this outfit out of the park.
Reconciler Armor
The best variant of Alphen's Sincleaver Armor is the Reconciler Armo. The beauty of this armor is how carefully placed the blacked-out designs and highlights are. Pair with the tattered black cape that wraps around the neck like a scarf look on top of the bright white plates of armor, and you have one legendary-looking piece of equipment. Additionally, Alphen's white air also does wonders for this set, allowing him to nail it.
Pre-Guard Getup
Before she was a Guard for Dohalim, Kisara lived a pretty different life. Fortunately, due to the Pre-Guard Getup outfit, you can get a small glimpse of what Kisara might have been like if she hadn't enlisted as a Guard. This outfit primarily consists of a brown, black, and white color palette, but Kisara pulls it off flawlessly. Furthermore, her hairstyle available with this outfit also seems much more laidback, which goes well with her uniform.
Regal Swimsuit
Shionne's Regal Swimsuit is the best beachwear out of the crew, as she wears an athletic look one-piece suit and has her hair pulled up before getting into the water. The colors of her swimsuit are also incredible and all pop. Shionne seems to be the most prepared for the beach, with the clear last place spot going to Law for whatever his outfit was.
New World Trailblazer
The New World Trailblazer outfit of Alphen's is pretty remarkable in many ways. His orange cape with a red vest underneath, paired with black and red pants, helps bring the outfit to life and gives it a unique look. While it has a subtle cowboy/western look, the attire has incredible color coordination and style.
Night Guardsman Armor
Kisara's Guardsman Armor is one of the best outfits in the game, with each color variant also crushing it. The Night Guardsman Armor is no different and is the best color coordinated Guardsman Armor set of Kisara's. The black metal with solid gold trim is irresistible, and the black undersuit does an excellent job of blending everything, making the subtleness of the gold stand out much more significantly.
Noble Blossom
Shionne's stunning dress has many color variants, but the Noble Blossom is truly something else. The color for the Noble Blossom seems to take on a more pastel palette, with pale blue taking up the majority of the outside of the dress, with the inside of it being light pink, which brings everything together beautifully. There are also splashes of gold and black throughout the dress, which help bring more range to the outfit. The Noble Blossom is Shionne's best dress, no competition.
Shogun Regalia
The Shogun Regalia is Dohalim's best outfit, primarily due to how awesome he looks in it. Not only are the color schemes incredible, Dohalim completely sells the look, which naturally makes it much better. Unlike Alphen's Samurai Armor, Dohalim's Shogun Regalia seems to have a more focused color palette, aside from the purple robe.
Female Samurai Armor
Kisara's Samurai Armor is her best outfit by a mile, with beautiful designs imprinted on the fabric along with vibrant colors. Each set looks stunning and viable, which is all you can ask for when making an armor set.
World Unifier
The World Unifier outfit is one of Shionne's best because it is stylish and maintains a look of adventure. The combination of red, orange, and brown shouldn't look quite this good, but Shionne pulls it off with flying colors. The mixes of white throughout also help give it volume, which is a nice touch.
Domonic Stole
Rinwell's outfits are typically pretty solid, as shown throughout here, but the Demonic Stole takes it up a notch. Each variant of the Demonic Stole has incredible color pairing, and the butterfly wings in the back help further sell the outfit. This uniform could have easily been overly gimmicky, but it threads the needle with precision and executes everything it set out to do.
Mia's Blood Veil
Even though this outfit is Mia Karnstein's from Code Vein, Shionne rocks it all the same. The purple and black color scheme is hard to beat, and with the purple only being on the skirt and leggings, the color stands out much more and looks incredible. This outfit is all killer, which is why it deserves to be in the top ten.
Gale Shinobi Costume
Law's Gale Shinobi Costume is one of the best sets in Tales of Arise. Law looks incredible in this outfit, and with a purple oni belt in one of the color schemes, he resembles Sasuke from the Naruto series. It was quite a surprise seeing how well Law pulled of being a ninja, but the execution is off the charts here.
Battlemaiden Outfit
Staying in Feudal Japan with the clothing, Shionne crushes her Battlemaided Outfit with hardly any effort. The offset dress length, colorful leggings, and oni knotted hair make a genuinely outstanding attire. This outfit is one of Shionne's best by a mile, with each color variant being unique, stylish, and handled expertly.
SW-EQ02F
The weird and unconventional naming convention of Shionne's SW-EQ02F outfit translates to its appearance, but in the best way possible. Sionne's batwing-esque cape that starts from her waistline and ends at her black and gold boots is ominous yet stylish. Additionally, her skintight black suit with intricate gold and silver patterns make for a fascinating design, which helps make the outfit stand out and above the rest.
Gahm Arthalys
The Gahm Arthalys is the last story-obtained outfit Alphen receives, and it is his best without competition. What makes this attire so great is how the gold outlines go throughout each article of clothes to create a coherent and distinguished look while also having splashes of blue and red visible.
Colorful Session
While taken from the Idolmaster series, Rinwell's Colorful Session walks the line of being too over the top and adorable perfectly. This outfit is excellent and features a primarily white and gold dress with well-placed, pastel colors such as purple, pink, yellow, and blue. Rinwell's braided hair is also a great touch and helps tie everything together. Traditionally, an outfit like this would have been disastrous, but Rinwell completely knocks it out of the park!
L'Aze Phiarquis
Like Alphen's Gahm Arthalys, the L'Aze Phiarquis is the last outfit Shionne obtains from the story and is the best in the entire game. The pure white dress accented by the neon blue outline on the bottom is top tear, which only gets taken further by the dark blue leggings and arm sleeves. Additionally, shionne also has a neon blue flower in her hair and what appears to be a neon blue shoulder pad of sorts on her right shoulder. The color coordination of this outfit is superb and makes it stand tall above the rest.
