Good news for Tales fans and for Bandai Namco: Tales of Arise is off to a great start on Steam. In fact, the game just had its biggest opening weekend on the PC platform for the entire Tales franchise, and it seems to still be climbing.

Tales of Arise topped out at just over 60,000 peak players just two days after the game’s release. Compare that to Tales of Berseria’s 8,000 and Tales of Zestiria’s 9,600 peak players, and Tales of Arise has had more players on Steam than all other available Tales games combined.

And it’s not just player counts that Tales of Arise can claim as a feather in its cap. The game also has a “very positive” review score at 92% from over 3,000 user reviews, which is better than all other previous Tales games too.

The critical consensus largely mirrors the players, with Bandai Namco pointing out a lot of 9/10 review scores for Tales of Arise on social media. Our own Andrew Shearon also gave Tales of Arise a glowing review, writing, “Arise elevates Tales back into the RPG spotlight.”

"Tales of Arise presents a refreshing sense of nostalgia in a shiny new package. At times it can misfire between its lovable but inconsistent cast of characters and political narrative, but there’s still a band of loveable heroes brandishing the classic Tales archetypes I’ve always adored."

Tales of Arise is the seventh mainline entry into Bandai Namco's JRPG series, featuring fast-paced combat and a brand new Boost Strike feature allowing multiple party members to unleash powerful, focused attacks under certain conditions.

Arise's story is one of revolution. The world of Rena has oppressed the enslaved Dahnans for centuries, and only when a mysterious warrior named Alphen meets a Renan refugee do the two team up to overthrow the world order.

If this sounds like your cup of JRPG, you can grab Tales of Arise on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or PC via Steam.
