It’s no surprise that Team Fortress 2 players are dying to learn more about a potential sequel. After all, the game did launch way back in 2007. Valve has done a great job of keeping the population count at sustainable levels, but we have to ask — how much longer can it survive?

A few rumors have been circulating in regard to an as-of-yet unannounced Team Fortress 3. Valve isn’t letting anything slide, so all we have to go on is some speculation and potential leaks. With that being said, there is a decent amount of information to go over.

Here is everything we know about Team Fortress 3.

Just Kidding, We Know Nothing - At Least Not Officially

First and foremost, no official word as come down from the almighty Gabe Newell about a successor to the hat-happy title. The information that we do have has been gleaned from various forums around the web (primarily 4chan), so take everything with a grain of salt. We also know that Valve doesn’t like to count to three — so maybe take a few more grains of salt.

New Classes

According to one 4chan leaker, Team Fortress 3 will feature three new classes at launch with another three to come later in some form of DLC. The leak makes no mention of what these classes are, however it does go on to list an oddly specific change made to the Medic class — they no longer regenerate health.

Medics are also reported to have gained another inventory slot that is dedicated to some sort of self-healing item. Another leak claims that The Civilian class from the original Team Fortress will be making a return for Team Fortress 3.

Release Date

If you thought the information was lacking in the above segment, you’ll find even less to like here. One report on a Team Fortress 3 fandom page  (possibly the only place less reliable than 4chan) lists the release date as January 5th, 2020 — with no source given.

Of course, the game will supposedly be released as a free-to-play title and could make its way to consoles shortly after the PC release.

What About Team Fortress 2?

via: Polygon

So, what will happen to good old Team Fortress 2 when TF3 launches? Well, it’ll still exist, but don’t expect any new content. The 4chan leak claims that there will be one last “Invasion” event in TF2 that will migrate all items over to TF3, but after that, the game will only receive patches to squash bugs. This supposed event will also include a special nine-player mission that will officially announce Team Fortress 3.

Whether or not a Team Fortress 3 will ever be made is up for debate. Based on what we know so far, we can easily conclude that the game is not in development, and likely won't be for a long time. Everyone has been getting excited due to these rumors, and we all have our own opinions on what we’d like to see in Team Fortress 3. These leaks are admittedly weak, yet they give us hope that Valve hasn't completely abandoned the series.

With no official news of a sequel in over 12 years, we have to imagine that it’s just a matter of time before something big is announced.

Then again, how long have we been waiting on Half-Life 3?
