Yesterday morning, Russia invaded Ukraine. Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian citizens have been left with difficult decisions to make concerning their safety - whether to stay and shelter from attacks, or evacuate. Unfortunately, with airports among the areas to have suffered attacks from Russian forces, the latter is proving difficult for some.As thousands face the prospect of being unable to get to their homes, Team Liquid is stepping up to assist those in the esports community. Regardless of what team they play for, Team Liquid has stated that it will house any of its "friends or colleagues" nearby who have been left stranded due to the restrictions on travel.Team Liquid's founder and co-CEO, Victor Goossens, is encouraging anyone who needs shelter to get in touch with him. Those affected can be housed in the Team Liquid apartments based in the Netherlands.Goossens says that a non-Liquid esports player has already been housed in the apartments, after they were left stranded in another country and were unable to return to their home.
This is far from the only response from the gaming industry in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. As we reported yesterday, game developers based in Kyiv spoke out after the attacks, raising awareness for what it is like for citizens facing these acts of aggression. Those speaking out include Stalker 2 developer, GSC Game World, and the team behind The Sinking City, Frogwares.
