Boo-yah! Cyborg was definitely a very popular character in the show Teen Titans, and who wouldn’t love this guy? He’s funny and a bit goofy, but he can also be serious when the time calls for it. This guy knows what it takes to work as part of a team. He has a bit of a no-nonsense way of dealing with criminals (but he’s not nearly as serious as Robin), and he knows how to get the job done.

I really liked Cyborg in the Teen Titans series. He was always a fun character to watch because he had a good balance of being silly and serious. Robin was too serious for my liking, and Beast Boy was too silly, but Cyborg was in the perfect middle. He’s also protective of his team, which was really fun to see, and he did take on a big brother role in the show. In general, Cyborg is a good superhero and a great guy.

With the new Justice League movie, Cyborg has been more in the limelight. People are starting to realize this half-man, half-machine superhero is a pretty interesting character and they want to see more of him, which is great. But just how much do you know about Cyborg? He’s a pretty interesting guy who also doesn’t like to talk about his past much (at least in the Teen Titans series). So here are 15 interesting facts about Cyborg you likely didn’t know.

Think we missed a few? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below!

15 He’s Got Mad Sword Skills

Via: teentitans.wikia.com

We know that Cyborg in Teen Titans is a good fighter with his fists, sonic cannon, and various other weapons he creates. He’s definitely someone you don’t want to mess with. But did you know that he’s also pretty skilled with a sword?

When Cyborg gets blasted 3,000 years in the past, he finds himself in the middle of another war. While he’s reluctant at first to get involved, he ends up helping Sarasim and her people fight. And he does this through using a sword, since he doesn’t have a ton of power left. And surprisingly enough, Cyborg is actually really good at sword combat. So, if you think you can defeat him just by disabling his weapons, think again. The guy has mad sword skills.

14 He Was The Leader Of This Group

Via: pinterest.com

For the most part, Cyborg is content to just be a part of the team, and he does work well with others. But he’s also got some skill at leadership and often steps up to help his fellow Titans, especially when Robin is out of commission.

Cyborg even becomes the leader of his own Titans group called the Titans East. This team consists of Bumblebee, Aqualad, Speedy, and Mas and Menos. It starts out that Cyborg merely helps the group get set up in East City, but he finds that he likes being the leader of a group. And for a while, he plans to stay there. But then Brother Blood comes along, crazy stuff happens, and Cyborg soon realizes that he misses his old group too. So, he decides to go back. But the fact that Cyborg can lead a group successfully is pretty cool.

13 His Family Relationship Is... Complicated

Via: dc.wikia.com

No one’s family is perfect and those that say otherwise are usually lying or delusional. And the Titans are no exception. Robin’s family is gone and the only family he has left is estranged. Starfire and her sister have all kinds of issues. Beast Boy’s adopted family is a bit dysfunctional as well, and don’t get me started on Raven’s father.

So, what about Cyborg? Well, he’s got some family issues as well. The loss of his mother hit him hard and he and his father have never really seen eye to eye. Cyborg is also rather angry at his father for turning him into, as he puts it, a monster. There’s a lot of resentment between the two, but there are times when they do put aside their differences. It’s a complicated relationship, but hey, that’s family for you.

12 He’s Definitely The Big Brother Of The Family

Via: kuroiyagi.tumblr.com, cafechan.deviantart.com

The Teen Titans do have a bit of a wide age range. The ages of the original Titans range between 14 and 18. While it’s never specified how old the Teen Titans are, it’s accepted that Beast Boy is the youngest of the group and Cyborg is the oldest.

So how old does that make Cyborg in this show? Well, we can assume he’s at least 16 since he can drive a car. But since he’s the oldest, and I’m pretty sure Robin is 16, I think that would put Cyborg at 17, or 18 at the oldest. It does make sense that he’s the oldest since he has quite the big brother dynamic going on with most of the team. Of course, that doesn’t mean he can’t be immature, but he’s shown to be a capable leader and older brother to the Titans, particularly Beast Boy.

11 What’s My Name?

Via: dcanimatedmovieuniverse.wikia.com

The interesting thing about Teen Titans is that the Titans were superheroes pretty much 24/7. So, they didn’t’ really go by their civilian names all that much. In fact, they’re rarely even mentioned in the show. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t have them (with the exception of Raven). Cyborg is no different. Before Cyborg became, well, a cyborg, he was a regular teenager named Victor Stone who was a star football player.

The show actually hints at his real name a couple of times. One time is during the episode “Deception,” which is when Cyborg goes undercover to infiltrate H.I.V.E. Academy. During this time, he went by the name of Stone. And in the episode “Episode 257-494 (a.k.a. Don't Touch That Dial)” where Control Freak takes over television, one of the shows has a host talking to a man named Victor Payton, which is another reference to both Cyborg’s real name and his voice actor.

10 He’s Bad At Love

Via: ceshira.tumblr.com, gretlusky.deviantart.com

In a lot of iterations of Cyborg, he doesn’t seem to have much interest in romance. Yes, he’s had a few short-term relationships, and hints in both the comics and shows, but Cyborg seems to be happy just being single.

I think in the show Teen Titans, it’s less that Cyborg isn’t interested in love and more that he doesn’t have a ton of luck in the love department. He did have a crush on Jinx, but that went south when she found out he was undercover for the good guys. He did fall for a lady named Sarasim when he got blasted 3,000 years in the past, but that obviously didn’t work out. And many fans speculated there was something going on between him and Bumblebee, though nothing seemed to come of it.

9 Talk About A Rough Origin

Via: comicvine.gamespot.com

Considering that more than half his body is made of metal, Cyborg’s origins have never exactly been cheery. In most iterations of Cyborg, he was mortally injured in an accident at Star Labs, where his father worked. His father saved his life by integrating technology into his body. But did you know that Cyborg’s original origin was actually quite a bit more gruesome? Well, at least how he lost the majority of his body is pretty awful.

In Cyborg’s first appearance, he and his mother were caught up in this alien blob that killed her and dissolved parts of Victor’s body. His father then saved his life by integrating technology into his damaged body to save him. Can you imagine having your body being melted by an alien? Yeesh, poor Cyborg.

8 This Guy Has Been Busy

Via: teentitans.wikia.com, pinterest.com, en.wikipedia.org

In Teen Titans, Cyborg was voiced by Khary Payton, and I think he does a fantastic job. He knows when to make Cyborg sound goofy and entertaining, but also when to make him sound serious when needed. And who could forget the awesome “Boo-yah!?" But did you know that Cyborg isn’t the only superhero Payton has voiced?

In fact, Payton has voiced quite a few characters in the superhero world. In the Young Justice series, Khary Payton voices Kaldur, also known as Aqualad. Other voice work he’s done includes Killer Croc in Batman: Arkham Underworld, and Blade in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. He’s even currently voicing Wasabi in the Big Hero 6 TV series. This guy is pretty talented! Maybe he’s living out his dreams to be a superhero (or villain, I suppose).

7 He’s Running With The Big League

Via: wall.alphacoders.com

The Teen Titans aren’t the only group that Cyborg has belonged to. While this didn’t happen in the Teen Titans show, other versions of Cyborg actually have him as part of the Justice League. Some universes have him as an honorary member, while others have him as a full-fledged member.

What’s also cool is that in some versions, and in the new 52, Cyborg is one of the founding members of the Justice League, which hasn’t happened before. If they keep his usual age, that would make him one of the younger members of the League, which definitely adds an interesting dynamic. I’m glad the League brought him in. Cyborg does a great job at being a team player, but can also take control when needed. The League needs someone like him.

6 Becoming One With Your Surroundings

Via: teentitans.wikia.com

The fact that Cyborg is over half machine means he can do some pretty cool stuff with technology. His arms can detach, he’s got all kinds of weapons on his body, and he can interact with technology in a pretty interesting way.

When Raven was being threatened by Slade, the entire team stood ready to defend Titan’s Tower from him. And then Cyborg did a pretty awesome thing: he merged with the technology of Titan’s Tower and essentially took control of the entire building. It makes sense, since half his brain is technology and circuitry. The guy can do some crazy stuff with machines that we could only dream of. Basically, you don’t want to mess with Cyborg, because he will mess you up and turn technology against you.

5 Which Version Do You Like The Best?

Via: emaze.com, movieweb.com, warnerbros.co.uk

Like other superheroes, there have been quite a few different versions of Cyborg, depending on the universe, the artist, and the era. Some versions of Cyborg work strictly with the Teen Titans, while others get their start in the Justice League.

What’s interesting is that no matter the version, Cyborg’s origin story has stayed fairly consistent with each iteration. He was an athlete, was nearly killed in a terrible lab accident, and his father saved his life by replacing the damaged parts of his body with machines. What Cyborg does after that often differs with each story. But in the end, he usually becomes a part of something bigger and learns to accept his new body and his new life. It’s not easy, but he usually makes it through in the end.

4 Is He Dead?

Via: factpiletopia.com

It’s not exactly new for a superhero to be “killed” and brought back. (How many times has Jean Grey died?) Generally speaking, if a superhero does die, he or she usually doesn’t stay dead for too long. And Cyborg is no exception.

Cyborg has died a few times, although his deaths are a little more complicated since over half of his body is machines. Cyborg can be rebuilt, and has been, so whether or not he’s been killed or just destroyed is up for debate. But he’s also had his mind taken over, and he has been lost to other influences as well. So, he has been destroyed or killed and then put back together multiple times. The technology factor does make it rather interesting, though.

3 This Is His Big Moment In Cinema

Via: polygon.com

Cyborg has made his debut in the DCEU in Batman Vs Superman, and Justice League. He’s shown to be a pretty interesting character who is dealing with the new changes to his body and figuring out his place in the world. His role in the Justice League movie was pretty well received, and fans couldn’t wait to see more of him.

Well, did you know he’s getting his own movie? The movie is tentatively scheduled to come out sometime in 2020, so, unfortunately, fans will have to wait a couple of years. But I actually have high hopes for this one. Ray Fisher does a great job portraying our technological hero, and I think he could carry a solo film very well. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with Cyborg and what struggles he’ll have to face.

2 He’s A Lot Smarter Than You Think

Via: xionice.deviantart.com

It’s pretty obvious in Teen Titans that Cyborg is ridiculously smart. The guy knows everything there is to know about technology and engineering, and he also knows quite a bit about biology and chemistry. He’s usually the one in the group to give the scientific explanation whenever one was needed. He even helps out medically and has pretty much become the team’s official doctor.

This is partially due to half his brain being a machine, and also the fact that Victor was incredibly smart even before the accident. In some versions, his smarts were the result of his father experimenting on him to increase his intelligence. Even before he became Cyborg, Victor was a full-blown genius. But I can see where he may resent his dad. I mean, having a parent experiment on you would be pretty weird.

1 These Two Are Pretty Close

Via: comicvine.gamespot.com, gretlusky.deviantart.com

The series Teen Titans showed that Cyborg and Starfire have a pretty close friendship. Some fans even shipped them (I could see that happening; I think they would be very good together). No matter what, you can’t deny that the two do get along really well. I think this is because they do have some similar personalities. Both are kind and tend to think about others’ needs before their own.

What many people don’t actually know is that Cyborg can speak Tamaranian, Starfire’s native language. It’s not talked about in the series, but it’s a fact. We don’t know if he learned it or his mechanical brain allowed him to “download” it, but Cyborg can speak other languages and Tamaranian is one of them. I wonder if he learned it to help Starfire? That would be very sweet.
