The Game Awards gave us a whole new gameplay trailer for Tekken 8, confirming the return of long-standing characters like Jin, Kazuya, King, Paul, and Marshall Law. We also got to see Lars in action, with the Tekken 6 and 7 star getting one hell of a makeover.Introduced as the main protagonist in Tekken 6, Lars Alexandersson has always looked appropriately cool and heroic in art and advertisements, but that didn't always translate to his in-game aesthetic. Fans were especially harsh on Lars's face in Tekken 7, with multiple mods made specifically to give Lars a more conventionally attractive appearance. Lars looks pretty damn good in the key art provided by Bandai Namco, but he looks just as good in the gameplay footage revealed at The Game Awards. Twitter user Dengo provided a side-by-side comparison between Tekken 7 and Tekken 8's version of Lars, and the differences are stark.

Or as one Reddit user put it, "Biggest fucking glow up in the entire series."

It's not just Lars getting a makeover in Tekken 8. Paul Phoenix is also sporting a remade look and has finally let his hair down. Fans aching for Paul's skyscraper-sized flat-top will be happy to know there will be at least one alternative costume that sends his blonde locks back into orbit where they belong.

Jun Kazama, Jin's mother, is also returning in Tekken 8 with significant visual updates. Her style is entirely different from Tekken 2, 3, and 4, with a flowing white dress and a dove on gloved hands. The fact she still looks pretty young has some fans speculating that Jun’s appearance might be more than just a current-gen refresh for the character. We’ll have to wait and see when more info is released in the coming months. Tekken 8 is still in development and not expected to arrive until later in 2023 at the earliest.
