One of the most hidden but useful aspects of Terraria is its statues. If you know what they do and how to exploit them then your game will never be the same — you just need to know which ones are the best to use and the most important to find.

The most important thing to know is where they spawn. Every statue, aside from the ones you can craft, can be found underground. Look around Dungeons, Underground Cabins, and at Cavern Level. That's easier said than done, especially when there are 114 statues to sort through when looking for the best one! But in case you're wondering, here are the ones you really need to look out for.

Updated May 25, 2022 by Rosa Baumgartl: Terraria continues to add more vibrant content with each update, and since the publication of this article there have been a number of useful statues added. We decided to include some of the best ones and explain why you should start collecting them.

13 Unicorn Statue

Terraria Unicorn Statue Platform Gravestone Balloons

Found underground in caverns, the Unicorn Statue resembles the head of the hardmode mob. Usually, it's not possible to come across a Unicorn before entering hardmode, but by wiring this statue up the player can spawn them. No loot will drop though, so it's best to wait until after defeating the Wall of Flesh. At that point the unicorns from this statue have a reduced chance of dropping Unicorn Horns, which are a useful ingredient for Super Mana Potions, Holy Arrows and Rainbow Rods.

They also have a small chance to drop a Unicorn On A Stick and Blessed Apples. The spawned unicorns need to be manually slain though, as lava traps won't cause them to drop any loot.

12 Butterfly Statue

Terraria Butterfly Statue Yellow Background

This statue can be crafted using 50 Stone Blocks and five of any kind of Butterfly. It can then spawn random butterflies of most sorts, including the rarest of them all, the Golden Butterfly. These can be sold for a whopping ten Gold, though the chances of it spawning are around 0.25%. Butterflies that will never spawn from this statue include the Hellfire Butterfly.

Alternatively, butterflies are a great source of fishing bait, with the Tree Nymph butterfly providing 50% fishing power when in your bait inventory. These statues can be made and then set up to spawn butterflies infinitely, though the player will have the catch them manually with a net.

11 Bast Statues

Terraria Bast Statue Inventory Underground Desert Room

Primarily found in the underground Desert biome, Bast Statues resemble the cat statues worshipped in ancient Egypt. These are incredibly useful in battle arenas, providing an AOE buff of +5 Defence to every PC. They can't be crafted, so it's important to go scavenging for them amongst the dangerous sand traps and Sand Dwellers.

Having multiple Bast Statues near each other won't stack the buff unfortunately, but if you walk around your battle arena you can see where the effect doesn't reach and place another statue down to extend the defense.

10 Slime Statue

Best Statues Slime Statue

The slime statue is one of the most useful in the game. It can spawn slimes pretty regularly, and they drop gel every time. This allows you to create a semi-autonomous gel farm. The Slimes can be killed by traps and/or lava, use that to your advantage when farming. They also have the chance to drop the Slime Staff at a rate of 0.01%. Ultimately, this is perfect to grind and will drop some pretty useful loot with little to no effort on your part.

9 Bomb Statue

Best Statues Bomb Statue farm

The bomb statue speaks for itself, really. It drops bombs for you to pick up and use. Obviously, this is incredibly useful since you can never have enough bombs at your disposal — especially when fighting a tough boss.

It's worth noting that you can't really exploit the bomb statue. They only work if there are less than 10 of the Bomb, Heart, or Star statues in the world or if three of them are present within 16 tiles. So be tactical about which ones you want and where you want them.

8 Jellyfish Statue

Best Statues Jellyfish Statue farm and design

Where the slime statue was a wonderful resource producer, the jellyfish statue is a fantastic resource for you to exploit. This statue drops 1-4 Glowsticks at a rate of 2.5%, a Jellyfish Necklace at a drop chance of 0.025% and if you're playing on PC it'll drop the Blue Jellyfish Kite at a rate of 0.4%.

It's not the most profitable statue in the game since it can't drop items when killed by traps or lava. Nevertheless, it can be pretty useful.

7 Star Statue

Best Statues Star Statue and heart

You always need more mana. So having this thing produce a Mana Star every 10 seconds really feels a little too good to be true. Luckily, it's not, and this statue is for real. It's an incredibly useful statue that should be prioritized if you're a spellcaster.

As previously mentioned, they only spawn a star every 10 seconds, so you will have to be patient. That being said, if you can automate it and put it where you fight a tough boss, this will be a relatively reliable source of mana to keep you casting spells and destroying the Slime King.

6 Heart Statue

Best Statues Heart Statue

Make sure to place this one tactically and make it autonomous if you're using it near a boss, and you'll never need hearts again. Unless the enemies manage to kick out damage faster than you can regen, of course.

The Heart Statues have a 10-second interval between the next spawn, so you're not immortal. Nevertheless, this is one of the most useful statues you can get ahold of, and it should be sought out relatively soon into the game since that's when the hearts will be at their lowest. If you can get hold of the Bomb Statue, the Star Statue, and the Heart Statue, then you'll be laughing at the endless stream of help.

5 Granite Golem Statue

Best Statues Granite Golem Statue

The Granite Golem Statue is one of the most profitable statues. Each Golem has the chance to drop Granite Blocks at a rate of 100% on console and 3DS or 20% for PC and mobile, as well as Night Vision Helmets at a rate of 3.3% on console and 3DS or 0.67% for PC and mobile. That may seem slanted against the PC and mobile players, but they get access to the Geodes these golems can drop at a rate of 1%.

The granite can easily be monetized along with the Night Vision Helmet. This statue is perfect for a little grind, even if they don't drop items from lava or traps. Grind this statue a little and you'll get more than enough money to keep you going. Not to mention the Night Vision Helmet is pretty cool!

4 Skeleton Statue

Best Statues Skeleton Statue

Even though Skeleton Statues look awesome, they also drop some pretty useful loot! This statue has the chance to drop an Ancient Gold Helmet at a rate of 0.1%, an Ancient Iron Helmet at a rate of 0.2%, a Bone Sword at a rate of 0.098%, and a Hook at a rate of 0.8%.

Annoyingly, this statue doesn't drop items if you use lava or traps to kill the Skeletons. Nevertheless, it can drop some pretty high-end items and its design looks pretty cool. It may seem like you'll never get anything good out of it, but it's more common than it looks.

3 Goldfish Statue

Best Statues Goldfish Statue

The Goldfish Statue is undeniably one of the most profitable statues in the game. The statue can be built rather than found — it requires 50 Stone Blocks and five Goldfish. They usually spawn simple goldfish But on a Blood Moon, they'll instantly turn into Corrupt or Vicious Goldfish that can be farmed beyond belief. When they're in this state they can be spawned infinitely, so make a small corrupt goldfish farm and the money will come flowing.

It doesn't give you any real items that can be of use and is focused on raw money production instead. Nevertheless, if money is what you're after, the Goldfish Statue is perfect.

2 Bat Statue

Best Statues Bat Statue

Unfortunately, you can't build the Bat Statue, but if you find it then it'll be a huge boon to your game. The bats you kill will have a 0.08% chance to drop a Chain Knife and a 0.2% chance to drop the incredibly useful Depth Meter.

It's ideal for grinding, and it shouldn't take too long to find the Knife or the Depth Meter if that's what you're looking for. Just make sure you don't place the statue in any traps or near any lava since the bats won't drop any items if you do this.

1 Bird Statue

Best Statues Bird Statue

The Bird Statue is a favorite among players and fans of Terraria, and rightly so. The Bird Statue is a hugely important component in the fastest engine in the game, the Bird Engine. All you need is 50 Stone Blocks and five birds of any type to make this amazingly useful statue.

The Bird Engine is the quickest in the game and will send electrical currents faster than one-second timers, so if you combine this with the CF farm you'll have more platinum than you know what to do with.
