With the Journey's End update three new Guitars were added to Terraria: the Rain Song, the Ivy, and the Stellar Tune. All of these are acquired from mob drops and can be played by the player using their cursor.
There are a few different musical instruments in the game, like the Bell, Harp, and Drum Set. That's enough to start your own little band. Here's everything you need to know about the Rain Song and how you use it once you've got it.
Where To Get The Rain Song Guitar
The Rain Song has a 1/100 (1 percent) chance to drop from a Flying Fish. These chaotic animals only spawn when it rains. You'll find them swooping up and down everywhere on the map, it doesn't necessarily have to be near water. Plus, this flying fish isn't a fish you can catch with a rod, you'll need to check out our complete fishing guide for that sort of info.
Don't worry, they aren't hard to kill. They only have a max life of 20 and very low defense. Flying Fish fly like the Eater of Souls, so quite sporadically, but don't move as quickly as their fleshy counterparts. Theoretically, you'd have to kill up to 100 Flying Fish for the Rain Song to drop, but that'd be quite unlucky. The Zephyr Fish is much rarer.
How To Use The Rain Song Guitar In Terraria

As the item's tooltip reads: "These licks are spicy." The Rain Song is used like you would use any other item, although the chord struck depends on how far away the cursor is away from the player.
- There are six different chords, A Minor, G, E, D, C, and F.
To practice how to use the Rain Song, you can set up a small playing area. Test the chord distance by clicking your cursor in small increments in any direction, it can be horizontal or vertical. Place down a torch or sign where the chords change.
Can You Actually Play Music With The Rain Song Guitar?
The short answer to that question is: yes! Along with the other musical instruments in the game, particularly the Drum Set and Harp, you can create an entire musical composition. You might need a few other players so you can each play a different instrument, though. It gets a bit fiddly if you're a one-person band.
Back when the Journey's End update was first released for PC, players managed to play Seven Nation Army, Toto's Africa, and a bunch of other songs, including the actual Terraria theme. Build your own concert hall and starting playing around with the different instruments, none of them are that hard to get.
