The Adventure Zone might become an actual television show.

Well, more like a streaming TV show. You see, NBCUniversal is coming out with its own streaming service to take on the likes of Netflix, Hulu, Disney, and everyone else. It’s called Peacock (‘cause of the logo) and it will be an ad-supported streaming app with tiered billing of some kind.

Details are set to be announced later Thursday, so stay tuned. But in the meantime, we’re being told what Peacock has in the development pipeline. One of the shows we’re most excited about is an animated adaptation of the McElroy family’s smash podcast, The Adventure Zone.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Adventure Zone on Peacock would follow the first season's Balance arc. It'll be an animated comedy series about three reluctant heroes as they embark on a quest to save the world (or universe--it got pretty hard to keep track near the end there.

Justin McElroy (y'know, the eldest brother) tweeted out that he was super excited to be working with Adam Higgs (of Orphan Black fame) on a script. Higgs is apparently a huge fan, and having an experienced writer means that The Adventure Zone is much more likely to be made.

But it's not a sure thing. The official TAZ Twitter account clarified that The Adventure Zone hasn't been officially picked up as a series yet, but they're hopeful.

The top suggestion on Twitter if things don't work out with Peacock is to pull a Critical Role and just Kickstart the show themselves. Critical Role famously had a huge Kickstarter campaign that funded not just the originally planned few episodes but an entire animated season. Although The Adventure Zone doesn't have quite the same following, it's still enormously popular and would likely have similar success.

Justin had no other details to share, so we don’t know if it’ll be the McElroys providing the voices or if they’ll contract out for other voice actors. Given the iconic nature of each character’s voice, I’m hoping they stick with the McElroys.
