You may remember a similar thing happening with Sirenhead, a scary story that became a reality thanks to video games and independent developers. Many different indie developers have been trying to put their spin on the twisted and eerie feeling of The Backrooms.

There are different games out there based on this story and most of them are Early Access by a small group of developers. Maybe you'd prefer a single-player experience, or maybe you're looking for one with the least puzzles. Either way, there are a good amount of different Backrooms-themed games for you to try.

9 Escape The Backrooms

Escape The Backrooms is less about puzzles and more about the experience. In this game, you can play with up to three other friends and must explore up to eight different levels of The Backrooms. The game is currently in Early Access on Steam.

The game feels somewhat like an escape room as each level tasks you with figuring out how to escape. The developers care about the lore and the real story behind The Backrooms, so each update and level connects to the creepypasta closely.

8 Inside The Backrooms

You've probably seen some of your favorite YouTubers play this one as it contains multiplayer, and who doesn't like sharing their horror games with friends? This game has several different levels, each getting harder with puzzles and a new monster to fear. The puzzles can become quite hard early on, and something lurking and following your every move doesn't make it easier.

It's in Early Access currently with four levels and six monsters. There's proximity chat and up to four people can play together, what's more, to tie the whole thing together, Inside The Backrooms has VR support as well.

This game was created around the idea of forcing you and your friends to work together. The developers lean heavily into the horror aspect of The Backrooms and in the game, you must stay focused on surviving rather than puzzles and escaping.

Like many of these other games, Backrooms: Escape Together is currently in Early Access on Steam. You and your friends will be tasked with various objectives to complete, and each level changes when you start a new game. This is one of the best-looking Backrooms indie games as the developers have used Unreal Engine 5 to create it.

This is a short eye-catching game that uses a VHS filter to great and creepy effect. The Backrooms is an Early Access game that is more about creating a small self-contained horror experience that the developer wanted to delve into. There aren't various levels and puzzles to this one, you just have to experience the horror and run from danger as fast as you can.

5 The Backrooms: Survival

The Backrooms: Survival plays on other genres to create an arcade-like horror slasher. Each level in the game is procedurally generated, and you have various stats to keep track of and improve.

The game is a multiplayer survival horror experience at its finest. It's currently in Early Access, but has a lot to offer players with multiple levels and monsters, as well as different game modes such as Permadeath.

4 The Backrooms Footage

The Backrooms Footage actually has an introduction that begins outside of The Backrooms, to really get you into the mood. The game has decent graphics and is amazing at creating the terrifying sensation that you have been walking in circles even though you've only been walking straight the whole time.

Right from the first level, you'll be lost and confused trying to escape this nightmare. The Backrooms Footage is also currently in Early Access.

3 Enter The Backrooms

Yet another developer has turned The Backrooms into a retro-inspired horror video game. This is a creepy adventure where you must maintain your sanity levels, and you have a tool belt full of goodies to help you on your journey.

Even though the game is in Early Access, the developers worked hard already because there are over 54 levels, some secret, and that's not counting the multiple levels inside other levels. There are power-ups, achievements, and more that make this Backrooms game more than just a horror walking simulator.

2 The Backrooms: Found Footage

These developers also tried to make a roguelike based on The Backrooms. Watch your stats such as Sanity and collect provisions and notes to stay alive and find an exit. This game plays on eerie, empty office spaces, not just the tell-tale yellow walls.

You will see other types of office space in this game also, as each level is procedurally generated and contains 600 million square miles to get lost in, meaning you have a lot of space to explore and run for your life.

The Backrooms 1998 is an Early Access indie game with VHS found footage style. It runs with the idea that you're a young teen in 1998 that stumbled upon this empty and foreboding space known as The Backrooms.

Every movement can be heard by the entity if you're not careful and walk over something like glass. The monster can even hear you through your microphone if you have one hooked up, and if you shout and your character starts to lose their sanity, you'll lose your surroundings and things start changing before you.
