The Callisto Protocol is an upcoming game from Striking Distance Studios, helmed by Dead Space creator Glen Schofield. This new title is similarly gruesome, and fans can look forward to seeing each and every death on their hunt for an achievement, but it's also been revealed more death animations will be added as part of the game's season pass. This has been misinterpreted as news already made animations are being hidden away, but that's not the case.

Schofield took to Twitter to reassure fans that the death animations that will be added as part of the season pass haven't been made yet. "We haven’t even started work on this content yet. It's all new stuff that we’ll be working on in the new year," he wrote.

He tweeted that players had asked for even more deaths, much to protagonist Jacob Lee's annoyance. "We’re making it a priority next year," Schofield wrote, so you may have to wait a little bit. But don't worry, the game as it releases shouldn't have any deaths gated behind a paywall, though the 13 being worked on for next year will be.

The bigger issue is a single-player game having something called a season pass as it leads to confusion like this. Whatever happened to good old-fashioned DLC? Or expansion passes? Not everything needs to be a season.

Hopefully the Striking Distance Studios employees won't be crunching to produce the added DLC, something Glen Schofield admits was a mistake during core development.

The first 13 minutes of The Callisto Protocol were leaked recently, so if you're wanting to try it before you buy you can check out the embedded video in our article. Be warned though, this leak is a recording of someone playing on a TV, so it isn't showcasing the game at its best.
