Even the people who aren’t fans of Pokémon are aware of just how visually appealing the creatures are. The series thrives on the cuteness factor brought by the Pokémon, and this has brought countless of these characters to the video gaming and anime industry.

By this point, there are as many as eighteen different types of Pokémon with their wide range of skills. Within each one of these at least one cute Pokémon can be found, and some fans even choose them purely based on this aspect. With that in mind, here are the cutest Pokémon of each type, ranked.

18 Fighting: Machop

Fighting-type Pokémon are among the worst-looking ones out there, although Machop is a nice subversion. While it’s easily lower than others in cuteness, Machop does have an appearance of an enthusiastic child.

They can be pretty useful with their abilities too, making their likability factor higher due to their nice appearance and battle usage.

17 Flying: Rookidee

Its eyes might not be the most beautiful things to gaze at, but Rookidee’s ever so small appearance lands it the top position for cuteness in its species of Pokémon.

In fact, the more one looks at it, the more endearing its serious look seems. Its evolved form is pretty cool, making the Rookidee family engaging.

16 Steel: Cufant

Although at the lower end of this list, Cufant does have its fans. Its likeness to a baby elephant wins it points for cuteness, along with its ability to light up a scene whenever it smiles.

There have been interpretations of even younger looking Cufants, which are a sight to behold if you love all things cuddly Pokémon.

15 Ice: Cubchoo

Its final evolved form can be downright monstrous, so it’s a surprise the base level Cubchoo is such a helpless little darling.

The running nose aside, this Pokémon seems like the best substitute for a teddy bear to use for a napping buddy. Cubchoo can be pretty handy in battles, although it remains largely known for its adorable appearance.

14 Ghost: Shuppet

The ghost category of Pokémon doesn’t boast of many good-looking ones, which makes Shuppet stand out even more. It looks very petite, yet the eyes can convey a lot of emotions.

Whether it feels mischievous, quiet, or happy, Shuppet has the ability to capture one’s interest through its charming features.

13 Poison: Nidoran

There’s a certain endearing quality in a mischievous look, and Nidoran proves it. It’s the male version that’s cuter, though, as these ones have a smaller frame that makes them seem like a child’s toy.

It’s not everyday that something that has poisonous attributes can be considered as cute, but Nidoran is a fine exception to this.

12 Rock: Golem

Very rarely do evolved forms outrank their earlier ones in cuteness. But there’s no doubt Golem wins here, resembling a turtle in a large shell.

In any case, this Pokémon does set a standard for other evolved forms to step up in the cuteness department.

11 Dark: Purrloin

Now here’s a Pokémon that looks like it could easily break your heart, but you’d easily let it. Purrloin has that classic feline appearance, a naughtiness that makes it childlike and lovable.

It might not be the flashiest creature out there, although a dark Pokémon being cute in general is such a big deal that Purrloin seems even cuter.

10 Ground: Sandshrew

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what is about Sandshrew that makes it so nice to see. Whatever it might be, the Pokémon sure does pull it off just right.

It can even qualify as being relatively intimidating too, which is funny since you also just want to pet this Pokémon as well.

9 Dragon: Dratini

Who would have thought something that looks like a snake could be so cute? Yet, Dratini manages to win hearts over simply through the use of its eyes.

The lack of a mouth gives it an innocent look, going great with the unique ears. There’s a regal quality attached to Dratini, something that seems more striking due to the shade on its coating.

8 Grass: Bulbasaur

There are more grass-type Pokémon than one can count by now, but the original generation Bulbasaur remains the cutest. Even in its aggressive stance this Pokémon manages to be so adorable, and fans love that.

There’s also the benefit of Bulbasaur being pretty strong compared to others, making it an added bonus to its cuteness level.

7 Bug: Caterpie

Caterpie is one of the few Pokémon to be cute in all its evolved forms. However, there’s no doubt this version is the best one. A simple look at it makes you feel a mixture of love and care for it, and that’s a feeling that doesn’t go away. It doesn’t matter if it’s not too strong because people still love this bug.

6 Fairy: Togepi

It will be a heck of a long time before fans can begin to forget Togepi. Considered as the poster figure for the appeal brought to Pokémon through cute characters, Togepi firmly remains at the top.

Everything about it is adorable, all the way from its small stature to its positive yet baby-like attitude. It’s the kind of Pokémon you just want to hug all the time.

5 Normal: Eevee

Easily the cutest of its type, Eevee resembles a fox cub. Its innocent features, combined with its generally naive personality make it an instant hit with fans.

No matter what power level it has, most newcomers like to go with Eevee because of its appearance. And it’s easy to see why.

4 Water: Piplup

Regardless of the many different kinds of water-type Pokémon, Piplup easily lands at the top spot in terms of cuteness. Its most appealing feature is its childlike mannerisms, which means fans only take seconds before their hearts melt.

It might not be the strongest water-type Pokémon, but that’s not a problem since Piplup makes up for it in cuteness.

3 Fire: Charmander

During the time when Pokémon was at the peak of its popularity, Charmander was one of the most promoted ones. Just a look at this cute fire-type Pokémon makes one want to adopt it in a heartbeat.

While its evolved forms of Charmaleon and Charizard might be too aggressive, Charmander remains a darling in personality.

2 Psychic: Mew

Made mainstream popular through the first movie based on Pokémon, Mew has endured as a powerful figure in the series. However, its cuteness might just exceed abilities, as Mew is a ball of fun.

It’s probably the best Pokémon to have, seeing as Mew can be used for easy victories and fill the owner’s heart with instant love for its adorable appearance.

1 Electric: Pichu

Considered as a weaker Pokémon than most of its type, Pichu remains extremely popular due to its appearance. Children eat up anything that has to do with this Pokémon, with this applying to adults as well.

With its happy personality and unique appearance, Pichu is easily in the top tier of lovable Pokémon you wish were in real life.
